We are looking for civic clubs, businesses, churches, or simply groups of friends, neighbors, families, or individuals who will come together and commit to preparing and delivering a healthy meal to Gardenview Village's 30-40 guests. You have the power to decide how frequently you can commit—one time only, weekly, or monthly—whichever best fits your schedule. We especially need meal deliveries towards the end of the month.

Kitchen facilities in Gardenview Village are limited, so food must be prepared offsite and delivered. Road2Home volunteers often foster personal connections with the folks we serve. By providing each Gardenview Village guest with healthy meals, positive interactions, and encouragement, you can make a significant difference in their lives.  

Through Road2Home's work, meaningful relationships are built, and hope for better futures is created.

Road2Home is actively recruiting for new board members who believe in our mission and want to volunteer with an agency doing first-hand work with our unsheltered community members in Bellingham and Whatcom County. 

We are looking for compassionate and motivated individuals who want to actively serve the organization and help further it's mission.  Applicants must be able to communicate effectively and work collaboratively with the board of directors.  Prior board experience is a huge plus!

Individuals interested in taking an active position with the board of directors or who have a specific skillset in fundraising, grant writing, HR, or accounting are highly encouraged to apply.

Do you have good driving skills and some time to serve others?  We need you.

Gardenview Village occasionally needs volunteers to transport guests to appointments, the grocery store, and other necessary locations. We would like to have a list of trained and dedicated volunteers with whom we can coordinate scheduling ahead of time to ensure dependable transportation to appointments is available when needed.   

This volunteer opportunity can be scheduled based on your available frequency.  We welcome daily, weekly, or monthly transporters' commitments.  Along with providing transportation to our guests, this experience offers the opportunity to form a positive connection and the potential for relationship building.  

The Gardenview Village van will be available for the transporters to drive, but for insurance purposes, it requires the following to be on file for each driver:

Completed volunteer application
Approved background check (Road2Home will do this)
Driver's Abstract Report (Volunteer requests this and provides a copy to Road2Home.  Road2Home will reimburse volunteers for the $15 fee associated with this report.

Are you handy to have around? Do you love to fix, replace, or repair? Gardenview Village needs you!

Volunteers should be experienced in general maintenance in the area where they specialize. They will be asked to assess a problem and suggest a good solution to remedy a the issue. They will communicate and coordinate with the Gardenview Village staff about the issue/resolution and resources necessary to move forward with repairs.

Do you have three hours weekly to commit to a regular shift at Gardenview Village? While there, you will help our staff take care of the requests and needs of the village's guests.  You may also be asked to help complete daily routine tasks such as watering plants, stocking bathroom and kitchen supplies, etc.... 

This position will allow you to meet many wonderful people from our community who also volunteer in different capacities and donors who drop by with in-kind gifts to share with the guests we serve. You will also build meaningful relationships with the folks served in Road2Home's programs and services.

We're looking for people who can commit to one afternoon a week from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m. or 3 p.m. to 6 p.m.  If you are willing, you could commit to one six-hour afternoon from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m.  You tell us the day you will be consistently available, and we will put you in that timeslot on the master schedule.

Do you enjoy creating a plan and watching it all come together? The Road2Home Fundraising and Events Committee welcomes your participation.   As a nonprofit organization, we work hard to raise funds to support our programs and services.  Everyone on the committee utilizes their skills, talents, and experience to plan, prepare, promote, organize, and host the fundraising activity.

The committee meets online via Google Meets monthly for 1 -2 hours to discuss new ideas and prepare for upcoming events.  Whether a season event planner or a novice, we welcome you to join us!

We need volunteer allies!! We currently have a waitlist of participants needing social support and allyship. 

As an ally, you'll provide companionship, connect clients with resources, serve as a liaison with their case manager, and help them achieve their goals. The best part is that you can do all this at a pace that suits you and your partner-participant. Our primary focus is on fostering connection and building a trusting relationship. 

Depending on what you prefer and what you're available, you may be paired with a guest at the Gardenview Village tiny homes or an individual in the community.

Being an ally is not just a volunteer role; it's an opportunity to make a significant difference in someone's life. Road2Home provides a community of fellow allies to learn from and connect with. We also offer in-depth training for allies, which covers trauma-informed care, creating boundaries, strategies to help clients realize their goals, local resources, and more. This comprehensive support ensures you feel prepared and confident in your role as an ally, ready to make a positive impact.

Being an ally requires a six-month commitment, during which you meet with a client in person twice a month and are available for phone calls or texts.

To help ensure a successful Ally experience, you must complete a Road2Home volunteer training class and an Ally orientation before being assigned a program partner. These sessions are designed to introduce our work, enrich your understanding of homelessness in our community, and help ensure a rewarding volunteer experience. You will also have access to our experienced staff trained in trauma-informed principles to guide you. We want your Ally Program experience to be rewarding for you and your partner!

The Surgery Center at Holy Family offers state-of-the-art technology, innovative treatment options, and a highly trained surgical staff.  Volunteers assist staff in this busy unit checking-in patients and escorting or transporting patients to their procedure or hospital room.  

Experience the benefit a dog visit brings to the health and well-being of hospitalized patients through this special program.  Dogs and their handlers must be certified with Pet Partners: Volunteer to Spread Joy and Comfort with Pets.

Our Soul Cart Volunteers are an integral part of keeping our Inpatient population socially and emotionally healthy.  They offer social interaction, and cognitive activities to combat boredom, melancholy and depression.  We also offer a variety of self-care items to help our patients feel a sense of normalcy in their day-to-day routine.  

Musicians promote a healing environment for patients, staff and visitors.  Roles vary by campus.  Holy Family, musicians offer the gift of performing arts, such as singing or playing an instrument, to an audience or 1:1 with patients.  Auditions required.  

Assist our busy kitchen team with nutritional meal prep and delivery to patients. Must have an active Food Worker Card through the Washington State Department of Health

Provide Information, escorting and wayfinding to patients and families as they enter the hospital, as well as other various tasks. 

Our busy emergency care team provides immediate high-level care, from sports injuries to heart attacks.  Volunteers assist staff with patient intake, provide wheelchair transportation for patients, and help with general cleaning and stocking tasks.  

Role Overview 

Rainier Athletes' (RA) mission is to affirm our youth’s sense of purpose and belonging by intentionally connecting their core community of teachers, coaches, families, and mentors. Once selected, each student is paired with a dedicated one-on-one mentor in elementary and middle school and a Squad Leader in high school. Each student is also sponsored to participate in sports/extra-curricular activities year-round throughout their duration with Rainer Athletes. Students begin their RA journey in 4th grade and continue through high school graduation and beyond.  

To sustain our impact with the growing number of Rainier Athletes high school students and families, we are seeking enthusiastic, dedicated individuals to serve as Squad Leaders for small groups of high school students. Squads consist of four or five students of similar ages. Squad Leaders are tasked with building relationships with students in their squad(s) as well as their students’ families, teachers, and others in the community. 

Responsibilities include coordinating logistics and prepping for weekly hour-long Squad Meet-Ups. These Squad Meet-Ups may include topical discussions, study sessions, or other activities to strengthen relationships and build towards each student’s next step plan after high school. Collaboration is a key element to the program’s success; Squad Leaders will have hour-long weekly formal opportunities to connect with other Squad Leaders and RA’s High School Program Manager to share highlights, challenges, and best practices.

On March 28, 2026, our community will gather for a rally and a march in Bellingham for No Kings Day, a powerful moment to affirm that democracy belongs to all of us.

We need volunteers in the following areas:

This rally is more than a gathering, it is a collective statement about the values we share and the future we want to shape together. Making it meaningful, welcoming, and impactful will take all of us. We are seeking volunteers to March and to support both the behind-the-scenes preparations and the essential day-of efforts that ensure the event runs smoothly and safely.

The Food Recovery Program (FRP) reduces food insecurity and addresses climate change by redistributing surplus food that might end up in the landfill to neighbors experiencing hunger. The FRP acts as a courier of commercially prepared, surplus food, to meal distribution agencies, with about 50% of the recovered food distributed to residents in food deserts within Whatcom County. The FRP relies on its close relationships with donating businesses, recipient agencies, and volunteer pool. The VISTA member will strengthen the FRP’s capacity by increasing the number of donor businesses, increasing our volunteer pool, and developing strong relationships with existing and new recipient agencies.

Our services focus on both conflict prevention and conflict intervention and include mediation, training, facilitation, coaching, supervised visitation, and community education for youth, adults, families, organizations, and businesses throughout Whatcom County.

The goal of this VISTA project is to increase low income clients’ access to conflict prevention and intervention services by building and promoting awareness of the organization, helping to secure vital financial resources, and ensuring the efficiency and efficacy of systems used to do so. In building on the work of the previous VISTA position, this role will deepen our outreach to underserved communities in rural areas, non-English speakers, and those who belong to specific demographic or cultural groups. Similarly the Development and Outreach VISTA will help to grow funding for projects and programs that specifically benefit low income individuals and help to increase the accessibility of our programs.

The overwhelming majority of children and families impacted by the foster care system experience poverty. 

Skookum Kids contributes to these children and families having support like access to safe housing, medical attention, nutritious meals, and recreational opportunities, which will help them break out of the cycle of poverty. Every program within Skookum Kids relies heavily on compassionate, competent, and committed volunteers, foster parents, and donors. The AmeriCorps VISTA will build capacity by improving Skookum Kids’ volunteer and foster parent recruitment and retention efforts, cultivating business and individual donors, seeking event donations, and sharing stories of impact.

We're looking for volunteers to help make the Ferndale Chamber's Flower Power 5K fundraiser run a success! This community event supports the Ferndale Chamber's tradition of lining Main Street with beautiful flower baskets each spring and summer, and we can't do it without your help.

Skyline Adventures needs volunteers to come up to the mountain at Bluewood and help kids and teens from Ochoa Middle School and Danner Farms: getting warm outer clothing on, latching boots, and off to their lessons.  After the lessons and lunch, we need the volunteers to free-ski or snowboard with the kids until 2:30 pm.  Then we need extra hands to hang up all of the used gear.  Afterwards, you can ski all you want until Bluewood closes. 

Ochoa Middle School in Pasco, Washington, serves a high percentage of economically disadvantaged students.

Around 9am the kids arrive and we get them outfitted in snow gear and help them pick up their rental equipment.  Once ready to go, we help the kids get to their lesson that Bluewood provides.  For lunch, everyone gets a lunch ticket and goes into the main lodge to grab their meal.  After lunch, the kids get to free ski until 2:30pm. We like to make sure there is a volunteer with the kids in case they need help getting up after a fall and to make sure they don't go down any black diamond routes. 

There will be a seasoned volunteer up on the mountain as well so just bring yourself, your gear, and we will show you the rest. -If you don't have skis or a snowboard let us know and we can arrange those for you at no charge.

Time Commitment

Help us kick off the growing season in March and April, or support us during the highest need months of July through September. We’ve already set aside most Tuesdays from 9am to 2pm during the growing season for large-group work parties, preferably with 20 or more volunteers. We encourage you to sign up for a full shift, but we ask for a minimum of three hours. Teams can consist of coworkers, community or church group members, or neighbors. All are welcome!

This is a critical period when refugees need assistance learning the basics of life in a new place, including things like public transportation, the banking system, public schools, managing personal healthcare, conversational English and getting involved in their community. Mentors meet with an individual or a family for two hours per week during their first three months in the U.S.

These positions are reserved for individuals that are caseworkers of clients with special needs that need a job coach or caseworker to accompany them in their volunteer tasks. The work will be customized to suit the individual abilities. Hours will flex based on individual availability. These shifts are pre-arranged

This is an outside food bank. Please dress in layers!

The Volunteer Opportunity consists of sorting, stocking food, portioning bulk food, handing out food to clients, prepackaging food boxes. :) When you pull in take an immediate left and then a right and you will see an open door. That is the location of the food pantry. :)

Bellingham At Home (BAH), a non-profit membership organization, is a virtual Village in Bellingham WA empowering older adults to stay active and engaged while living in their own homes and neighborhoods.  It is a program of the Whatcom Council on Aging.

The Village is powered by volunteers who provide “good neighbor” assistance to older folks in our community. Volunteers provide transportation to medical appointments and other services in Bellingham, take members shopping, provide companionship, complete light home repairs and garden maintenance, and other tasks as needed.  (BAH does NOT provide medical assistance, personal care, nor ongoing cleaning and maintenance tasks.)

If you are searching for opportunities to use your skills to support the Bellingham community and enjoy talking with interesting people who have many life experiences to share, you’d make a great BAH volunteer. Most assistance requests are for 2-hour time slots and you can let us know when you are available.  There is no weekly commitment; flexibility to meet your own schedule. BAH members reward our volunteers with their most grateful appreciation!

The U-District Mentoring Program & McDonald Elementary are looking for mentors!

This is an easy and fun opportunity for you and a student. You'll meet with your elementary student for just 30 minutes, once a week and give a child a connection to look forward to.

Join our team for a lunchtime opportunity -  just one day each week, between 11:00am – 1:00pm, Monday through Friday. School staff will work to match you with a student according to your schedule!

Again, your weekly commitment will take just 30 minutes, while you have lunch with your student, play a board or card game or simply visit. You can also go outdoors to the playground.

JA Mobile Finance Park is a hands‑on budgeting simulation for middle and high school students where they are given a real‑life scenario, including a career, income, family responsibilities, and financial obligations. The students are challenged to manage their money based on the financial situation they received. Students move through a series of stations where they make choices about housing, transportation, food, savings, insurance, and other everyday expenses, all while balancing their budgets and adjusting to unexpected costs.

As a JA Mobile Finance Park volunteer, you’ll serve as a personal finance coach, working with a small group of students as they navigate the simulation. Your role is to guide discussion, ask questions, and help students think through their financial decisions. Volunteers encourage problem‑solving, reinforce budgeting concepts, and help students understand how today’s choices can impact their future.

No prior teaching or finance experience is required. All training, materials, and on‑site support are provided, and Junior Achievement staff will be available throughout the day to assist. This fast‑paced, engaging experience allows volunteers to make a direct, meaningful impact by helping students build confidence, critical thinking skills, and financial awareness.

Your time and real‑world perspective play a vital role in making JA Mobile Finance Park a memorable and powerful learning experience for students.

Support our Food Educators in delivering cooking lessons to kids in Whatcom County! We have cooking clubs after school on Mondays and Fridays, and school day lessons during the school day Tuesday-Thursday in the Bellingham, Meridian, Nooksack Valley and Mount Baker elementary schools!

You will be helping 4th and 5th graders to cook a healthy and delicious meal together. You must sign up to volunteer through your school district and go through a background check before volunteering with kids. 

We are especially in need of help in the county schools. Cooking lessons are fun and hands-on, and the more hands we have, the better!

For this volunteer opportunity, we need help picking up litter in your local parks. All you need to bring is yourself! Volunteer at your leisure any time. Just let us know which park you'd like to volunteer at 48 hrs in advance so we can have supplies ready for you if needed. 

This version of the volunteer opportunity has the under 18 waiver for parents or guardians to allow their child to participate in the activity. 

If you are a parent or guardian, select the "Respond as A Team" option and add your child to your team. A Parks representative will email you within 72 hours of signing up to discuss the volunteer locations and hours with you.

Wednesday afternoons from 12:00 to 3:00 or 3:00 to 6:00pm and Thursday mornings from 8:30am to 12:30 pm involve distribution and working with the public.

Join Dirt Corps this March in learning about and caring for the riparian forest of Kingfisher Natural Area. We will explore the history, restoration, hydrology, and ecology of this section of Thornton Creek. After this we will care for the space by removing groundcover English ivy and other weeds and perform general upkeep to keep it a nice space for people to use. We look forward to seeing you there!

Join Dirt Corps this March to celebrate the International Day of Forests and help us care for this section of the West Duwamish Greenbelt. We will learn about this international celebration and forest care event and the tree species present in Westcrest Park. We'll then care for our restoration area by applying mulch around the native plants and trees and removing weeds (looking at you, blackberry!). We hope to see you there!

Alternate Driver: A volunteer is needed to deliver meals in Burien on Wednesday mornings, as needed. Drivers pick up meals between 10:30 am - 11 am and are typically done with their route in 1-1.5 hours. This volunteer is someone who is ready to step in when needed, ensuring consistency and support to help keep our services running smoothly.

Qualifications: Commitment to the well-being of elders, good communication and people skills, reliability, and good cheer. This is an on-going volunteer commitment and we are looking for someone available long-term.

Requirements: Complete an application, consent to a background check, be able to lift 15lbs, be at least 18 years of age, and have a Washington state driver's license and auto insurance.

Because of the training involved, we are seeking volunteers who are interested in committing to an ongoing role with us. Training is provided, and mileage reimbursement is available for those making deliveries.

Help us prepare our native plant nursery for another year of restoration projects! We will be potting thousands of bare root plants and tidying up our Parks Native Plant Nursery.  

Note: these work parties have multiple shifts! There are available shifts in both the morning and afternoon on Saturday, March 7th and Saturday, March 14th! You may choose morning (9 a.m. – 12 p.m.), afternoon (1–3 p.m.), or both for either day.

Parking is a short 10-minute walk down the street from the nursery at the South Bellingham Park and Ride (West). Follow our work party signs and walk to our native plant nursery at 2710 Donovan Ave.

All ages and abilities welcome. Participants under age 16 must be accompanied by a parent/guardian. Tools, gloves, and instructions are provided. Please note that bare-root potting is less physically active than our typical work parties, and we recommend warmer layers. As always, please dress for the weather and wear sturdy shoes.

Job Overview: The Digital Navigator provides individualized or small group assistance to older adults living in affordable housing that need coaching in introductory digital skills, and/or affordable home internet service and device access. Onboarding and training provided.

The Digital Navigator’s work is part of CIRC’s initiatives to increase Digital Equity and Literacy among residents.  The Digital Navigator is a part-time volunteer position, ideally lasting 6 months with a 4 hour a week in person commitment. Background checks and volunteer agreement are required through CIRC. Schedule is flexible but must occur between business hours of 10am-5pm. 

Responsibilities and Duties

● Assess the resident’s access to technology, current digital skill level pertaining to what they need to accomplish the plan, connectivity needs, and internet use priorities. Set agreed goals for Digital Navigator services. Confirm the details with the resident.

● If necessary, advise residents about free or affordable home internet service options for which they may qualify, assist them in applying for services they choose, and support their efforts to secure the service.

● If necessary, advise residents about sources of affordable computers or other internet connected devices for which they may qualify, and support their efforts to acquire appropriate devices and where they can get help for repair.

● Coach residents as necessary to use their home internet services to meet their internet use priorities. This may include referral to sources of additional digital literacy skill training.

● Track each resident’s progress and types of requests, keep accurate and timely daily records, and report outcomes via established resident surveys.

● As necessary: receive, return, or initiate telephone contact with residents seeking assistance or identified by CIRC.

● Discuss with each resident their home internet access/need for home internet access, technology experiences and their devices.

● Plan and manage ongoing assistance to fulfill the resident’s agreed upon goals.

● Other tasks as necessary.

● Ability to embrace the challenge of learning and teaching basic technological concepts related to internet services, computer, and device characteristics, and common online services and applications.

● Excellent self-organization, language capacity, and cultural competency.

● Excellent telephone and online communication skills, including the ability to establish trust with clients of varied educational and cultural backgrounds.

● Ability to demonstrate positive attitude, excellent interpersonal skills, cultural sensitivity and a sense of humor in working with diverse customers, coworkers, and community.

● Ability to creatively solve problems and negotiate and handle stressful situations in a positive manner.

● Ability to provide excellent customer service, establish appropriate boundaries with clients, and to demonstrate innovation and flexibility.
