Volunteer: Skipper

If you want to share your love of sailing with others this is one of the best ways to do it.  Our participants experience a level of freedom sailing that an able-bodied person can only start to understand.  If you want to enjoy an experience with a boatload of happy people, we have a Catalina 22 and a Harbor 20 for taking groups out.

Our four Access dinghies have side-by-side seating for two.  This allows the skipper to sail the boat, assist the participant to sail it or just go along for the ride.

The two Martin 16 dinghies seat two, one behind the other.  With the participant having the controls, the skipper goes along for the ride, giving advice if asked.

There is also an opportunity for someone with small motorboat experience.  If you like spending time on the water, messing about in boats, and would like to help others enjoy the water, operating our Boston Whaler chase boat would meet all these criteria.

Both of these positions require several years of experience.  Please contact us if you think you may be qualified for either or both of these positions.

Volunteer: On Shore Volunteer

This is an opportunity for someone that wants to spend time in the summer on the shores of Lake Washington helping people with disabilities go sailing.  For them it is a chance to leave their disabilities at the dock and experience the freedom of sailing.  For you it is the chance to see their smiling faces when they get back to the shore.

These participants just need a little assistance to get from the shore to the water.  Volunteers help check participants in at Registration, and for new sailors review their expectations and explain to them how Footloose operates.  Prior to the participants going to the dock life jacket and sling (if required) fits are required.  All participants are escorted to the dock by a volunteer.  Volunteers then assist, if help is needed, participants getting on and off the boats.  This assist can range from offering an arm to hold onto, to the use of a davit system and hoyer lift.

No experience is required for the on-shore positions.

Volunteer: Volunteer Online as a Conversation Partner

Ready to change a life from the comfort of home?

Join ENGin as a conversation partner and be matched with a learner in Ukraine for weekly one-on-one English conversations. In just one hour a week, you can help someone build confidence, break the language barrier, and feel supported, all while discovering a new culture and making a genuine human connection.

We’ll pair you up with a learner in Ukraine for weekly one hour videochats at times that are convenient for you. During your conversations, you’ll facilitate English practice for your partner, learn about each other’s cultures, and offer an empathetic, authentic space for connection.

Our only requirements for volunteers are English fluency, a strong internet connection, and the ability to commit to one hour a week for a minimum of 12 weeks.

No prior tutoring experience or knowledge of Ukrainian language is needed to volunteer with ENGin. We offer ample training resources, session materials, and total flexibility to customize your sessions to fit your/your partner’s goals and preferences. Our friendly team is available to support you throughout your time with us.

Since our launch in 2020, ENGin has matched over 30,000 volunteers with Ukrainians for authentic English-language connection across borders, and we continue to grow every day. 99% of our learners report feeling they were able to break the language barrier as a participant in our program, and 79% of our participants form lasting friendships. We're incredibly proud of these results, and we can't wait to welcome you into this global community of volunteers making them possible.

Here's what three ENGin volunteers say about their experience.

"I made a friend in Ukraine and we are teaching each other about our culture, our language, and our humor. We're even trading dad jokes! Both of us look forward to our chats and have a hard time wrapping it up."

“Fantastic organization doing great work. So happy to be a small part of it.  My partner and I have worked together for two years and have become good friends! Her English has become better, and I have become more knowledgeable about Ukraine!”

"This program has been, I think, life-changing for both of us. I really consider her more like my daughter right now. That's how close we have become!"

Combining direct client interaction with a strong administrative focus, the role requires advanced data entry skills, exceptional organization, and a high level of attention to detail. The position operates within the Benefit Access Department (BAD), contributing to programs designed to promote housing stability, financial management, and access to essential resources. Volunteer: Become an Ally - Work one-on-one with a person experiencing homelessness

We need volunteer allies!! We currently have a waitlist of participants needing social support and allyship.

As an ally, you'll provide companionship, connect clients with resources, serve as a liaison with their case manager, and help them achieve their goals. The best part is that you can do all this at a pace that suits you and your partner-participant. Our primary focus is on fostering connection and building a trusting relationship.

Depending on your preferences and availability, you may be paired with a guest at the Gardenview Village tiny homes or with an individual in the community.

Being an ally is not just a volunteer role; it's an opportunity to make a significant difference in someone's life. Road2Home provides a community of fellow allies to learn from and connect with. We also offer in-depth training for allies that covers trauma-informed care, setting boundaries, strategies to help clients achieve their goals, local resources, and more. This comprehensive support ensures you feel prepared and confident in your role as an ally, ready to make a positive impact.

Being an ally requires a six-month commitment, during which you meet with a client in person at least twice a month and are available for phone calls or texts.

To help ensure a successful Ally experience, you must complete a Road2Home volunteer training class and an Ally orientation before being assigned a program partner. These sessions are designed to introduce our work, enrich your understanding of homelessness in our community, and help ensure a rewarding volunteer experience. You will also have access to our experienced staff trained in trauma-informed principles to guide you. We want your Ally Program experience to be rewarding for you and your partner!

We are thrilled about the possibility of working with you and the positive impact you can make as an ally. Your contribution is highly valued, and we look forward to welcoming you to our team soon!

Volunteer: Volunteer mentor for one of our incredible students in the Bellevue School District!

Rainier Athletes' (RA) mission is to affirm our youth’s sense of purpose and belonging by intentionally connecting their core community of teachers, coaches, families, and mentors.

RA is a long-term mentoring organization that begins walking alongside students and their families in 4th grade and continues through high school graduation and beyond. Each student is matched with a dedicated mentor who meets with them weekly, fully funded to participate in year round sports and activities, and supported as they explore and advocate for their unique identity.

No experience with sports, mentoring, or working with youth is required. Trainings are held throughout the year and you’ll have support from our dedicated team whenever you need it.

RA students are not just athletes, but are also artists, activists, engineers, and up-and-coming philosophers. Their passions are a way that we engage in a deeper conversation with them and their supporters. So no, you don’t have to love sports! RA mentors are volunteers with diverse backgrounds, skill sets, and interests.

Volunteer mentors meet with their mentee once a week at the mentee’s school. After check-ins, mentors share a report with their mentee’s family, teachers, and coaches. RA mentors are bridge builders, strengthening relationships beyond their one-on-one connection to the student by uniting the student’s entire Core Community of supporters. We call this approach ONE Team Mentoring!

Mentors typically spend 1 hour per week between meeting with the student, and communicating with their parents, teachers, etc. We ask mentors to commit for at least one full school year.

Check-ins are typically held on Thursdays or Friday afternoons. The level of involvement outside of weekly check-ins is up to you. Mentors rave about the extra time they spend attending activities like sports games and milestones like birthday parties, graduations, and quinceañeras.

Volunteer: Volunteer Mentor at Greenlake Elementary "Lunch Bunch"

Become a volunteer mentor! Join a fun community!

Rally Club Seattle is recruiting mentors for its “lunch bunch” group mentor community. Programming takes place onsite at Greenlake Elementary School in  NE Seattle (2400 N 65th St,  Seattle, WA 98103)  weekly on Mondays from 12-1pm.

Rally Club focuses on community and making meaningful connections. Connectedness not only has a powerful protective effect on mental health, but also improves other youth outcomes such as academic competence, concern for others, and confidence. Caring mentors like you create a welcoming, fun, and inclusive community that youth want to be a part of. Time is spent in larger group activities as well as in small groups and in giving individualized attention. Activities are tailored to youth need and interest.

Some great reasons to join:

-Community is good for all of us, and volunteering has measurable health benefits.

-Our group format allows for others to cover absences, so although we ask for a once a week, semester commitment, it’s realistic.

-You can join with friend! It’s not only fun, but also provides the kids with healthy examples of adult friendships.

Volunteer: Become a Mentor with the U-District Mentoring Program!

At U-District Mentoring, we believe that everyone has something to offer as a mentor. It doesn’t take much to greatly impact a child's life. By showing up consistently, for four hours each month, you can help to decrease depression symptoms, increase self confidence, and encourage higher educational goals for your mentee. Forming these relationships and expanding a child’s horizons can be one of the most rewarding experiences.

Unlike other mentoring programs, we don’t have a waitlist of children. Instead, we intentionally match the mentor and the child based on interests and experiences. Hoping to be matched with a child that likes to paint or play sports? With the help of school counselors, we work to find that perfect match.

The commitment level is easy, even for the busiest of people. You can create the schedule and get to plan each outing!

Training is online and on-demand, and volunteers choose the wishes that best fit into their schedule. Wish-granting opportunities can be in-person, virtual, or hybrid.
