Volunteer: Bake birthday cakes for foster kids and at risk youth in Kitsap County, WA

Bake your way to making a difference!

At Cake4Kids we bake and deliver homemade birthday cakes, cupcakes, cookies, bars, and brownies to foster children and at-risk youth -- and all of the baking and decorating is done by you, the volunteers! We aim to raise their self-esteem with this seemingly simple gift on their special day. Cake4Kids supports as many at-risk youth as possible in the communities we serve, including youth experiencing homelessness, victims of human trafficking and domestic violence, those in foster care, and more. We are proud to serve the Western Washington area and bring hope to the at-risk youth in the community!

If you like to bake and decorate cakes, you will love to volunteer with Cake4Kids.

Bake as often as you'd like... it's up to you how often you volunteer

You choose which requests to sign up for (based on theme, dessert type, delivery time and location)

Bake and decorate in your own kitchen

Deliver the finished sweets to the local social services agency that placed the request

It's fun and rewarding and truly the "sweetest" volunteer opportunity you can participate in.

**Volunteer orientations are currently being held online**

a { text-decoration: none; color: #464feb; } tr th, tr td { border: 1px solid #e6e6e6; } tr th { background-color: #f5f5f5; }

Kitty Hall is a purr‑fectly fun cat adoption event hosted by the Seattle Animal Shelter at Seattle City Hall. For one special day, City Hall transforms into a cozy cat lounge where visitors can meet adorable, adoptable kittens and cats of all ages. Community members are invited to stop by, learn about the adoption process, chat with shelter staff and volunteers, and—most importantly—find their new feline family member.

This event also features a whimsical civic twist: attendees can cast their vote for the Kitty Council President. Meet the charming feline candidates, explore their playful “platforms,” and participate in a lighthearted election that brings a little extra civic pride to the celebration.

To make Kitty Hall a success, the Seattle Animal Shelter is seeking enthusiastic volunteers. Roles include greeting community members as they arrive, helping with gentle kitten wrangling to ensure cats stay safe and comfortable, and supporting event set‑up and tear‑down. Volunteers play a vital part in creating a welcoming, well‑organized, and fun experience for everyone—two‑legged and four‑legged alike.

Volunteer: Marra Farm Giving Garden Work Party (Group)

Do you want to end hunger in your community?

Imagine a city where people have equal access to healthy and culturally appropriate food. The Community Food Education (CFE) at Solid Ground fosters community connections through gardening education, sustainable food production, environmental stewardship, and raising awareness about good nutrition and food justice. We also fight hunger by providing low-income individuals with seeds and materials, and supporting backyard gardeners in donating fruits and vegetables grown in King County.

If you share our vision, join us at Marra Farm Giving Garden in Seattle's South Park neighborhood! A Giving Garden Work Party offers an idyllic outdoor opportunity to bond with your coworkers. Dig into soil, plant, weed, and harvest much-needed fresh food for our neighbors as you connect with your team. With the rising cost of food, our local communities rely on fresh produce from Marra Farm more than ever. Help us grow healthy and culturally appropriate food for our neighbors in need!

Time Commitment

Help us kick off the growing season in March and April, or support us during the highest need months of July through September. We’ve already set aside most Tuesdays from 9am to 2pm during the growing season for large-group work parties, preferably with 20 or more volunteers. We encourage you to sign up for a full shift, but we ask for a minimum of three hours. Teams can consist of coworkers, community or church group members, or neighbors. All are welcome!

To Apply

Please click the Respond button below. We will get back to you within 3-5 business days with next steps.

BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and other People of Color), and people with the lived experience of food insecurity are strongly encouraged to volunteer.

Responsibilities include assisting with program setup before shower hours, greeting participants, helping distribute supplies as needed, maintaining a clean and organized space during operations, and supporting staff with general program needs. After services conclude, volunteers assist with cleanup, sanitizing areas, restocking supplies, and preparing the space for future use. Volunteers should be dependable, compassionate, and committed to treating all participants with dignity and respect.

Teaching basic life skills such as budgeting, cooking, organization, or household management Helping children with homework, reading, or simple activities Sharing hobbies, crafts, gardening, or other practical skills Providing encouragement and emotional support Assisting with community events and activities Simply spending time with residents, listening, and helping families feel connected and supported

Volunteer: Staff the Capitol Hill Tool Library

Join our crew to learn new skills, connect with your community, and have lots of fun. No prior experience required!

How we serve the community

The Capitol Hill Tool Library empowers our neighborhood to build DIY skills and improve sustainability, through offering tool borrowing, workspace, and classes.

Our inventory includes over 3,000 items, ranging from ice cream makers to hedge trimmers to sewing machines to drills. Our workshop has spaces for woodworking, jewelry making, and 3D printing. And our classes cover everything from backpacking to kombucha brewing wood shop safety to tax prep.

We're an entirely volunteer staff, and everything we offer is free or pay-what-you-can so that we can serve everyone in the community.

What skills you’ll need

Absolutely none. Really!

Many of us (including the person writing this listing!) came to the tool library with no DIY, woodworking, or "maker" experience at all - just an interest in connecting with our neighborhood. It’s very easy to learn on the job.

What you’ll do

We're open six days per week, for three hours each day. You'll pick a day to come in for, where you and one or two other tool librarians will serve patrons and improve the library. This includes checking tools in and out (like a library book), organizing inventory, helping patrons plan their projects, designing outreach and signage, and repairing broken items.

During your first shift, you’ll get an orientation from an existing volunteer and we’ll help you find tasks that you enjoy.

Why you’ll be excited

Staffing the tool library is a fun, rewarding way to connect with your community. You’ll meet your neighbors and help them with projects that they’re infectiously enthusiastic about. You’ll also learn a ton through your own tasks - whether it’s by cataloging new inventory, chatting with patrons, or opening up and trying to repair items.

You’ll do all this while working as a team with other sociable, community-minded tool librarians who are excited to make Capitol Hill a better place. You'll also have a chance to meet tool librarians from other shifts at our monthly volunteer potlucks.

Final ask

Please let us know your phone number so our volunteer coordinator can reach out to you. (There's no way within United Way's interface for us set this as a requirement, unfortunately.)

Volunteer: Furniture Pickup and Delivery Team Member

Rooted Home Furniture Bank is looking for volunteer Furniture Pickup & Delivery Team Members to help collect donated furniture and deliver essential household items to individuals and families transitioning into stable housing in Whatcom County.

This hands-on role is one of the most direct ways to support our mission. Volunteers help pick up donated furniture from community members, load and unload items, and deliver pieces such as beds, dressers, tables, chairs, lamps, and other home essentials to local households. Road2Home is actively recruiting for new board members who believe in our mission and want to volunteer with an agency doing first-hand work with our unsheltered community members in Bellingham and Whatcom County.

We are looking for compassionate and motivated individuals who want to actively serve the organization and help further it's mission.  Applicants must be able to communicate effectively and work collaboratively with the board of directors.  Prior board experience is a huge plus!

Individuals interested in taking an active position with the board of directors or who have a specific skillset in fundraising, grant writing, HR, or accounting are highly encouraged to apply.
