Then the DAT team responds in person to the event and provides immediate assistance. Calls are relayed from the hotline to your personal cell phone.

Duty Officers coordinate with our Disaster Action Team members to initialize a disaster or emergency response. When a fire, flood, or other disaster occurs, our central Hotline phone will forward to your personal cell phone. You then contact our team members to dispatch them to respond to various situations.

Responsibilities:

Leadership:

May determine if Red Cross action is required; may decide if Red Cross will respond via DAT. Uses event triggers such as size, scope, and type of the event to direct the DAT response. Works with on-scene DAT leadership to support the response and provide technical guidance. Support and trains new Duty Officers.

Functional:

Dispatch DAT members and monitor the response to ensure appropriate resources are made available. Activate Disaster Health Services, Disaster Mental Health, and Disaster Spiritual Care, Public Affairs when requested. Documents incoming disaster notification and creates & verifies events in RC View, when applicable. 4. Where appropriate, maintains access to and ability to use the Client Assistance System (CAS) to enter case data and load CACs. May be required to monitor activity across multiple DAT responses. Our hearts. First started in 2001, the project originally only had 20 volunteers and ran on a very small scale.

But now its amassed thousands of supporters from countries across the globe, all of whom want to pick up their pens and offer their support to the cause.

● Ensure the financial health of SPIN, including approving its annual budget, audit

Board members are elected by the Board of Directors. SPIN’s Board members will serve

About English for Work and the Adviser Role

English for Work is a quarter-long English language program, designed for immigrants and refugees who are planning to get a job (or a better job) or enroll in college/job training in the next six months or so. In the class, students improve English listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills while learning about U.S. work culture, career goal setting, resume writing, and interview preparation.

Each adviser is assigned 2-3 students for the quarter. Advisers work one-on-one with their assigned students, supporting them in setting short-term and long-term career goals, resume writing, English practice, applying for jobs, and preparing for job interviews. Advisers primarily meet with students virtually, with occasional in-person opportunities at local libraries or other local public meeting spaces if student transportation allows.

This is a great role for working folks because the meeting schedules can be flexible. It’s also great for recently retired folks who are looking for ways to give back to the community and share their industry expertise!

We provide training and support to volunteers throughout the quarter.

Adviser Requirements:

Must be enthusiastic about connecting with students virtually and comfortable using technology (Zoom is the most common mode for advising meetings, accessible to those with busy schedules and transportation barriers). Free rein offers both adaptive riding and a military horsemanship program. 

Right now we are beginning our Spring Session (March - May) and we are in need of more volunteers to sign up and join our family!

As of now, we still need over 40 spots on our schedule filled with volunteers! Spots from Horse Leaders to Sidewalkers and Arena Assistants! 

Spring Session runs Tuesday-Thursday in the mornings and evenings, and Saturdays in the mornings.

We would love it if you would come out and learn about our amazing participants and meet our fantastic horses!
