Help care for a school garden in your neighborhood/area! Attend a volunteer orientation or scheduled volunteer hours and learn what to do, then volunteer on your own and take care of the school garden by watering, weeding, harvesting and beautifying! Volunteers under the age of 13 are very welcome but must bring an older sibling or an adult. Please note that not every garden is wheelchair accessible--but some are!

Please note there are different kinds of opportunities. Some schools have a scheduled time when you can garden with other volunteers (Birchwood, Cordata and Roosevelt in Bellingham; Nooksack and Sumas further east) if that's your jam or if you are just learning to garden and would like some guidance. Other schools have more independent volunteer opportunities. There's something for everyone! 

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED for fun opportunities at our Visitor Information Centers throughout the county! Share your passion about where you live through helping tourists, locals, and the community members of Whatcom County.

At Bellingham | Whatcom County Tourism, our mission is to improve the local economy by attracting visitors to stay longer. We are looking for volunteer Tourism Ambassadors to engage with people at our visitor information centers in Bellingham.

Volunteers must be familiar with Whatcom County attractions (or have an eagerness to learn), be able to investigate and provide clear directions, and handle multiple tasks at one time. Strong communication and customer service skills are essential, as well as having a positive and friendly attitude.

We are asking that volunteers commit to one shift per week, for a minimum of three months. Shifts are 3-4 hours. If you are interested, but have more questions about availability, please reach out.

Benefits to joining our team: trips to learn about area attractions, hotels, and outdoor adventures. We also have volunteer appreciation parties and provide snacks during shifts. Anyone who has felt more isolated the last couple years and has been looking for a way to get more involved in the community, couldn’t ask for a better opportunity than working in local tourism!

The U-District Mentoring Program & Garfield and Whitman Elementary are looking for mentors!

Make a lasting impact in a child's life! Join us at Garfield or Whitman Elementary in North Spokane and become a mentor to an elementary student who will look forward to connecting with you each week.

This rewarding opportunity requires just 30 minutes of your time once a week throughout the school year. Whether you're sharing lunch, playing board games, enjoying conversation, or heading out to the playground, you'll be creating meaningful moments that matter.

The Surgery Center at Holy Family offers state-of-the-art technology, innovative treatment options, and a highly trained surgical staff.  Volunteers assist staff in this busy unit checking-in patients and escorting or transporting patients to their procedure or hospital room.  

Experience the benefit a dog visit brings to the health and well-being of hospitalized patients through this special program.  Dogs and their handlers must be certified with Pet Partners: Volunteer to Spread Joy and Comfort with Pets.

Our Soul Cart Volunteers are an integral part of keeping our Inpatient population socially and emotionally healthy.  They offer social interaction, and cognitive activities to combat boredom, melancholy and depression.  We also offer a variety of self-care items to help our patients feel a sense of normalcy in their day-to-day routine.  

Provides a secure, caring environment where elderly and impaired adults receive rehabilitation services, nursing care, and the opportunity to socialize. Volunteers assist during mealtime and afternoon activities, provide dog visits, and bring their own gifts and talents to share too - from MUSIC and ART to VIRTUAL/PHONE VISITS and YOGA. Other ideas always welcome! Must have an active Food Worker Card through the Washington State Department of Health to assist during meals. Dogs and their handlers must be certified with Pet Partners. 

Musicians promote a healing environment for patients, staff and visitors.  Roles vary by campus.  Holy Family, musicians offer the gift of performing arts, such as singing or playing an instrument, to an audience or 1:1 with patients.  Auditions required.  

Assist our busy kitchen team with nutritional meal prep and delivery to patients. Must have an active Food Worker Card through the Washington State Department of Health

Provide Information, escorting and wayfinding to patients and families as they enter the hospital, as well as other various tasks. 

Our busy emergency care team provides immediate high-level care, from sports injuries to heart attacks.  Volunteers assist staff with patient intake, provide wheelchair transportation for patients, and help with general cleaning and stocking tasks.

Mileage is reimbursable. As a Caller, you would arrive at 9am and are typically done in 2 hours. We are looking for volunteers who are interested in volunteering long term.

Looking for a volunteer opportunity that is fun and rewarding? Join our Volunteer team! As a Meals on Wheels Volunteer, you will belong to a team committed to helping homebound seniors maintain their health and independence with nutritious food, personal contact, and caring service.

A volunteer is needed to deliver Meals Wednesday mornings, as needed. Volunteers arrive at our site in West Seattle to pick up meals between 8:30 am - 9:30 am, and deliveries typically take 1 - 1.5 hours. This position would be on an occasional basis, filling in when one of weekly drivers is away. Mileage is reimbursable while making deliveries. We are looking for volunteers who are interested in volunteering long term.

Station & library volunteers commit to working for 2 to 3 hours a week in Spark Central's Creative Station - or they can fill in as a substitute for someone who can't make their regular shift. Their role focuses on making Spark Central a welcoming space accessible to everyone!

These volunteers welcome patrons, answer our Help Desk telephone, describe what Spark Central is to adults, offer free membership to new guests, and learn our library software so that they can check in and out books, technology, and creative kits. Station volunteers may assist staff in engaging youth and families in engaging creative activities; library volunteers may assist with maintaining technology or cataloguing new library items. Station & library volunteers may also assist in inventory, data entry, and cleaning.

What is STAR? The mission of STAR (Storytelling, Teaching Artists, Arts Integration, and Resilience) is to provide creative education through culturally responsive frameworks, with access to the arts and technology for 3rd through 5th graders at Holmes and Garfield elementary schools. STAR creates a safe, consistent learning space with Lead Teachers and volunteers who cultivate trust, get to know participants' passions and interests, foster collaborative friendships, set the culture, and provide social-emotional learning tools that strengthen wellbeing beyond the classroom. STAR features professional Teaching Artists, designers, and innovators who guide students through projects that strengthen artistic skills, foster problem-solving, and introduce new mediums for creative expression.

STAR students love their volunteers. If you enjoy spending time with 3rd-5th graders, they want to meet you! Mentors receive training from Spark Central to help encourage and develop STAR students’ creativity and build positive, playful relationships with them. Expertise in visual arts, performing arts, entrepreneurship, and other subjects explored in the program are not required - all you need is a desire to share yourself with these cool kids!

A year of STAR is organized into three units that engage students in investigative performance arts, technology and entrepreneurship, and large-scale visual art projects. In each project, Lead Teachers, Teaching Artists, and volunteer mentors guide and support students in identifying playful, impassioned ideas and developing them into powerful, tangible expressions of student voice.

Fall project: Atmosphere. Atmosphere gives artists the ability to tell stories with their breath. During this module, artists will create art with their breath and bodies as they dance, act, sing, and play.

Winter project: Satellite. It takes a lot of creatives, scientists, and innovators to create a satellite. For Satellite, artists will use technology to create art through animation, photography, film, science and entrepreneurship.

Spring project: Constellation. All the connections that make artists stronger. During Constellation, artists will gravitate toward tactile art that builds bridges between the previous units. The understanding of motion makes our paintings stronger. Thinking in 3D makes us better sculptors. Artists can expect to make art bigger and better than ever, on and off the canvas.

Time commitment: Mentors are expected at one school (either Garfield or Holmes) from 3-5 PM for at least one day each week. This program runs Tue-Fri from October to June. We are hoping to find volunteers who are available for the entire school year, but if you are only available for one unit, that is alright, too.

It is almost that time of the year again, VOAWW will be partnering with Everett Transit to provide gifts to families in need. We will be at the Fred Meyer on Murphy's Corner in Everett stuffing the bus by collecting toys, and other essential items for families in need in Snohomish County.

Set-up/Tear-Down Aides – Help race organizers set up for the event (setting up tables, marking the route) and then packing up at the end of the event.

Course Monitor - Placed along the race route to direct and cheer on athletes at specific locations. Will also help serve water at the water station. (Be willing to walk approximately a mile to get to destination.)

Parking Monitor – Directing participants on where to park and where to go for the event.

WE NEED YOUR HELP!! A PIT Count is an unduplicated count of individuals experiencing homelessness in a community on a single night. The data collected helps inform local and national policies and programs aimed at addressing homelessness. 

Volunteers will meet at location for each shift and determinations will be made on how each volunteer can assist. Locations to meet will be determined at a late date once all events have been confirmed. 

Locations: Skagit West County ( Anacortes, Bow, LaConner), Mount Vernon/Burlington, Skagit East County ( Sedro-Woolley, Concrete, Hamilton, Marblemount) 

Every 3rd Saturday of the month, our Women's Hearth will have our volunteer service day. Our doors will be shut and this will be a great way to experience our Hearth space and help our staff get cleaning tasks done! Please note that you do not need to attend the full service day if you are unable. We appreciate as much or as little time as you are able to commit!

Every April, the Skagit Valley Tulip Festival welcomes guests from all over the world who come to experience the beauty of our blooming fields and the charm of our community. To help make this special season run smoothly, we’re looking for enthusiastic and reliable volunteers (age 30+) to join our team! Whether you’re a longtime local, a recent retiree, or just someone who loves springtime in Skagit County, volunteering is a great way to connect, give back, and be part of something vibrant.

What You’ll Be Doing:

All volunteer opportunities are based at our Festival Headquarters in Downtown Mount Vernon, where we assist visitors, sell Tulip Festival merchandise, & much more. Tasks may include:

There is also an occasional need to help at our organized events, such as the Ambassador Event, Tulip Parade, and Opening Ceremony. 

When We Need Help:

Our biggest need is throughout the entire month of April, when the Tulip Festival is in full swing and our office and storefront in downtown Mount Vernon (311 W Kincaid St., Mount Vernon, WA 98273) is open 7 days a week. Shifts are available daily, with special interest in weekend help. Shifts typically range from 3–4 hours, and we’ll work with your availability to build a schedule that fits.

Our Mission: We remove barriers to health with relentless compassion so that no one faces illness and injustice alone.

Lifelong was founded by volunteers in the '80s in response to the HIV/AIDS crisis, delivering meals to folks with HIV. Lifelong has expanded since then and merged with the Northwest AIDS Alliance and Evergreen Health, and we now serve individuals with a wide range of chronic medical conditions including cancer, diabetes, and kidney disease, as well as seniors and folks with disabilities. We deliver medically tailored meals and culturally relevant grocery bags to people's homes primarily in King and Snohomish counties.

In 2024 we delivered 180,000 meals and 35,000 grocery bags to folks in need.

Our Vision: Health For All

Making an impact in your community is easier than you think! Help deliver nutritious, culturally appropriate groceries and medically tailored meals from the Chicken Soup Brigade to our clients who are home-bound and/or living with serious illnesses.

Volunteer driver routes take 60-120 minutes to complete on average (including picking up the food from our home base in Georgetown), you will deliver to around 6-10 clients per route, and we can try to find a route near where you live to save driving time and help you build connections within your community.

We are currently looking for support with the following routes:

Pickup Time/Location: Pick up times are between 9:00am - 3:00pm Monday - Friday at our warehouse in Georgetown. We also have satellite pickup locations in Bellevue on Thursdays and Aubrun on Fridays to reduce your driving time if you live close to those areas. Please ask us about those in your application if you're interested!

Commitment: 1 shift per week for at least 3 months (OK to take time off for vacations and other commitments. Just make sure those dates are communicated to us!)

Qualifications: Must be 18 years old or older, have a driver’s license, and a reliable vehicle with proof of insurance. Training for the role is provided.

Individual Volunteers — Lifelong

Come and spend time with foster children who are staying at The Landing!

Every shift looks different at The Landing, since we have a high turn over rate of the children who come to stay.  We care for kids by providing them a safe and fun environment, participating in activities like Summit Trampoline Park, Creativitea, the movies, and LOTS of parks! 

Volunteers are asked to serve for a minimum of once a month. We are open 24/7 and have many shifts to suit your availability. Washington State does require a few things to complete before volunteering, so inquire about this opportunity and meet with our Volunteer Coordinator to get started!

The mission of Skookum Kids is to eliminate the pain points that make foster care so difficult, we do this by involving the whole community in the important work of child welfare.  Skookum Kids is a 501(c)3 non profit based in Bellingham, WA.  

This monthly event is an awesome (and easy!) way to support foster parents and caregivers in our community.  Volunteers are needed from 5:40-8:45 pm to provide childcare, snacks and games with kids while their caregivers take a few hours off! 

We are eager to host Family Night Out the first Friday in October and November this fall!

Come and have a sleepover with the children who are staying overnight at The Landing- an emergency placement house for children first entering foster care.  Overnight shifts are from 9pm-7am or 8pm-8am 7 days a week.

Must be friendly, organized, comfortable with technology, and able to be on your feet. Flexible scheduling with multiple team members to help meet appointment needs.

This is on your own time as you are available. Steam or iron dresses at the shop, sanitize/clean shoes and accessories, organize racks. Repair items and/or schedule repair with our volunteer seamstress.

Perfect for those who love to decorate and have a creative eye! Work with a team to bring a shared vision to life by decorating for holidays, setting up displays, and preparing for events. Flexible, ongoing role you can fit around your schedule. Great for someone who enjoys the little details that make a big impact.

Calling all heroes--you’re needed to help make our 2025 Annual Gala a super night!

We’re looking for volunteers of all powers and abilities to join our heroic team helping us raise vital funds to support kids and families in our community. From greeting guests with your super charisma, to speeding around the live auction, and swooping in the after-party, we’ll need your help to make the night unforgettable. With a reception, live auction, and after-party there are plenty of roles and shift times for you to make an impact. 

No cape needed-just your enthusiasm, energy, and willingness to help. Volunteers must be 21 and older.

Volunteers are needed to help sort, count, and pack any remaining school supplies from the 2025 Back-to-School Brigade program! These volunteer shifts will happen on Thursday September 18th and Tuesday September 30th from 10am to 1pm at our Field Office in Auburn, WA.

As a Mentor, you have an opportunity to help Minds Matter students synthesize what they have learned in the classroom and apply it to their path to college. Mentors' focus is on preparing Minds Matter mentees for success in college. This means we help students with skills gaps in math and writing, as well as work with them to build strong public speaking and critical reasoning skills.

We will be serving students for the 2025-2026 school year in person, but will prioritize student and volunteer safety and comfort.

Operation Nightwatch reduces the impact of poverty and homelessness in keeping with Jesus’ teaching to love our neighbors. Nightwatch provides food, shelter, housing and hope to Seattle’s most vulnerable population. Join us for an evening of sharing, dining, coffee and conversation with our board, community, staff and friends

THE EVENT

Lighting the Path is an in-person event on October 16, 2025. Doors open at 5 pm. We expect more than 300 people to attend. Representatives from the business, government, and faith communities will join to mingle, share a meal and hear about the work of Nightwatch. Join us for an incredible evening! Where you come in

Lifelong is seeking volunteers to help out in our kitchen to prepare and package medically tailored meals for clients who are living with serious illnesses. Our kitchen volunteers play an important role in helping homebound individuals maintain their health and independence by preparing delicious and nutritious meals. No cooking experience is necessary!

Monday - Friday: 9:30am - 12:00pm; 1:30pm - 4:00pm

Saturdays: 10:30am - 1:00pm; 2:30pm - 5:00pm

Grocery Program Volunteer Job Description

Lifelong has expanded since then and merged with the Northwest AIDS Alliance and Evergreen Health, and we now serve individuals with a wide range of chronic medical conditions including cancer, diabetes, and kidney disease, as well as seniors and folks with disabilities. Where you come in

Lifelong needs volunteers to help repack bulk items such as rice, beans, and oats, pack shelf stable items into grocery bags to prepare for delivery, and help us put away deliveries. The warehouse is the foundation of our work in getting food to clients who are living with serious illnesses.  

Requirements: All volunteers must obtain a Food Worker Card and complete an online HIPAA training

Current needs: Monday - Friday 9:30am - 12:00pm and 1:30pm - 4:00pm

Bellingham At Home (BAH), a non-profit membership organization, is a virtual Village in Bellingham WA empowering older adults to stay active and engaged while living in their own homes and neighborhoods.  It is a program of the Whatcom Council on Aging.

The Village is powered by volunteers who provide “good neighbor” assistance to older folks in our community. Volunteers provide transportation to medical appointments and other services in Bellingham, take members shopping, provide companionship, complete light home repairs and garden maintenance, and other tasks as needed.  (BAH does NOT provide medical assistance, personal care, nor ongoing cleaning and maintenance tasks.)

The Children of the Valley Bike Club is looking for support in building bikes and routine maintenance on our fleet! Since the bikes the students earn do not arrive assembled, we are looking for support in unboxing and building them up. We are also looking for bike mechanics who are interested in helping teach the lesson where students unbox and build bikes during club time. This is a perfect opportunity for any person looking for wrenching experience to land that job in the bike industry or for former bike mechanics looking to give back to the community and help get more kids on bikes.

As a ride assistant, you will join the bike club for the most fun part of the day: riding! We are looking for adults who feel confident riding on the roads and trails of Skagit County to join our rides to help teach our students the ways of the roads. In this role, you will help students solve minor issues, like adjusting their seat height, serve as an extra set of eyes while riding to spot safety issues, such as loose shoelaces, and have a blast while spreading the joy of bike riding.

Our students are scholars! The first 45 minutes of the bike club are dedicated to helping students complete their homework or to helping them improve their academic skills. As a tutor, you would work with a student to increase their confidence in academics and give them that extra support they need to be successful in the classroom. No bike skills necessary!

Creative Companion Volunteer Opportunity

 We are urgently seeking kind-hearted volunteers to assist a blind 60-year-old participant in Seattle (98106) who is preparing to move.

 She lives alone and is unable to receive support from family. Volunteers are needed to help with packing and organizing her belongings.

 Due to her visual impairment, she must be informed about each item being packed to ensure she can access what she needs.

 Your help will have a meaningful impact in her life during this transition.

A gentle-hearted 90+ year-old woman in Shoreline is seeking a compassionate companion to brighten her days with conversation and presence. She is hard of hearing and has vision challenges, but her spirit is vibrant and her love for company is strong.

We are looking for a patient, kind, and understanding volunteer—ideally someone with a background in nursing or caregiving, such as a retired RN—who can offer companionship and warmth. The participant deeply appreciates thoughtful gestures and has a history of being cared for by nurses, which brings her comfort and joy.

Do you love sports? Do you enjoy teaching kids how to play and work together? Well, youth sports is the place for you! The youth in our community need strong role models and leaders to help teach them the fundamentals of sports while incorporating the four Core Values of the YMCA (Caring, Honesty, Respect and Responsibility). What better way to make a difference in a child’s life than to teach them teamwork in a fun, non-competitive environment?

Currently looking for help in the following programs:

Fall Basketball League November 3rd - December 18th. 

Commitment includes one 45 min practice and one 45 min game a week.

Start times range from 4pm - 7:30pm.

Practices are Mondays or Tuesdays and games are Wednesdays or Thursdays.

Make a lasting impact in a child's life! Join us at Franklin Elementary on the South Hill and become a mentor to an elementary student who will look forward to connecting with you each week.

This rewarding opportunity requires just 30 minutes of your time once a week throughout the school year. Whether you're sharing lunch, playing board games, enjoying conversation, or heading out to the playground, you'll be creating meaningful moments that matter.

Clean mirrors, dressing rooms, floors, windows, and bathroom. Landscaping & flowerbeds outdoors (If needed). Help ensure a tidy, welcoming environment for students and families.

We are looking for a driver to drive a 15 passenger van on day trips for seniors. Day trips are 2-5 hours depending on the trip. Minimum of two trips a month, maximum two trips per week. :)

Date & Hours: Monday-Saturday, between 8-6pm, depending on trip date and time.

*Must be 21 year of age and able to pass vehicle driving test
