Volunteer: Volunteer mentor for one of our incredible students in the Bellevue School District!Rainier Athletes' (RA) mission is to affirm our youth’s sense of purpose and belonging by intentionally connecting their core community of teachers, coaches, families, and mentors. RA is a long term mentoring organization that begins walking alongside students and their families in 4th grade and continues through high school graduation and beyond. Each student is matched with a dedicated mentor who meets with them weekly, fully funded to participate in year round sports and activities, and supported as they explore and advocate for their unique identity. No experience with sports, mentoring, or working with youth is required. Trainings are held throughout the year and you’ll have support from our dedicated team whenever you need it. RA students are not just athletes, but are also artists, activists, engineers, and up-and-coming philosophers. Their passions are a way that we engage in a deeper conversation with them and their supporters. So no, you don’t have to love sports! RA mentors are volunteers with diverse backgrounds, skill sets, and interests. Volunteer mentors meet with their mentee once a week at the mentee’s school. After check-ins, mentors share a report with their mentee’s family, teachers, and coaches. RA mentors are bridge builders, strengthening relationships beyond their one-on-one connection to the student by uniting the student’s entire Core Community of supporters. We call this approach ONE Team Mentoring! Mentors typically spend 1 hour per week between meeting with the student, and communicating with their parents, teachers, etc. We ask mentors to commit for at least one full school year. Check ins are typically held on Thursdays or Friday afternoons. The level of involvement outside of weekly check-ins is up to you. Mentors rave about the extra time they spend attending activities like sports games and milestones like birthday parties, graduations, and quinceañeras. Volunteer: Become an Ally - Work one-on-one with a person experiencing homelessnessWe need volunteer allies!! We currently have a waitlist of participants needing social support and allyship. As an ally, you'll provide companionship, connect clients with resources, serve as a liaison with their case manager, and help them achieve their goals. The best part is that you can do all this at a pace that suits you and your partner-participant. Our primary focus is on fostering connection and building a trusting relationship. Depending on your preferences and availability, you may be paired with a guest at the Gardenview Village tiny homes or with an individual in the community. Being an ally is not just a volunteer role; it's an opportunity to make a significant difference in someone's life. Road2Home provides a community of fellow allies to learn from and connect with. We also offer in-depth training for allies that covers trauma-informed care, setting boundaries, strategies to help clients achieve their goals, local resources, and more. This comprehensive support ensures you feel prepared and confident in your role as an ally, ready to make a positive impact. Being an ally requires a six-month commitment, during which you meet with a client in person at least twice a month and are available for phone calls or texts. To help ensure a successful Ally experience, you must complete a Road2Home volunteer training class and an Ally orientation before being assigned a program partner. These sessions are designed to introduce our work, enrich your understanding of homelessness in our community, and help ensure a rewarding volunteer experience. You will also have access to our experienced staff trained in trauma-informed principles to guide you. We want your Ally Program experience to be rewarding for you and your partner! If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact our team at info@enginprogram.org. Agency: ENGin Ready to change a life from the comfort of home? Join ENGin as a conversation partner and be matched with a learner in Ukraine for weekly one-on-one English conversations. In just one hour a week, you can help someone build confidence, break the language barrier, and feel supported, all while discovering a new culture and making a genuine human connection. We’ll pair you up with a learner in Ukraine for weekly one hour videochats at times that are convenient for you. During your conversations, you’ll facilitate English practice for your partner, learn about each other’s cultures, and offer an empathetic, authentic space for connection. Our only requirements for volunteers are English fluency, a strong internet connection, and the ability to commit to one hour a week for a minimum of 12 weeks. No prior tutoring experience or knowledge of Ukrainian language is needed to volunteer with ENGin. We offer ample training resources, session materials, and total flexibility to customize your sessions to fit your/your partner’s goals and preferences. Our friendly team is available to support you throughout your time with us. Since our launch in 2020, ENGin has matched over 32,000 volunteers with Ukrainians for authentic English-language connection across borders, and we continue to grow every day. 99% of our learners report feeling they were able to break the language barrier as a participant in our program, and 79% of our participants form lasting friendships. We're incredibly proud of these results, and we can't wait to welcome you into this global community of volunteers making them possible. Here's what three ENGin volunteers say about their experience. "I made a friend in Ukraine and we are teaching each other about our culture, our language, and our humor. We're even trading dad jokes! Both of us look forward to our chats and have a hard time wrapping it up." “Fantastic organization doing great work. So happy to be a small part of it. Volunteer: Eye clinic assistant managerHere's a great way to help your fellow man and earn karma points while you're at it. The Haskell Lions Eye Clinic provides FREE eye exams and glasses to low-income homeless, immigrant, and elderly residents, using only volunteers and donations. Open two afternoons a month, the clinic itself doesn't require much of your time. Yet there's work behind the scenes that's required to make things run right. You'd be helping the clinic manager review and input applications, contacting applicants to make appointments, help schedule our volunteers, and other administrative tasks, along with being the manager's right arm on clinic days (1st and 3rd Thursdays of each month). As a member of the clinic's leadership team, you'd also sit in on our bi-monthly meetings that run 90 minutes. Your commitment totals about 15 hours a month, with some flexibility: Work from home and/or the clinic. Overall, it's about half interacting with people and half paper & computer work. Most of our volunteers have been at the clinic for many years; it's a fun and friendly place to help out! Volunteer: Community Outreach Tabling Team!! We're building a small, tight-knit crew of community ambassadors to represent VOAWW at local events across the areaBe the face of Volunteers of America Western Washington!!! The Street Team!! We're building a small, tight-knit crew of community ambassadors to represent VOAWW at local events across the area — tabling, sharing our story, and connecting people to the work that changes lives every day. You'll work in pairs, so you'll always have a teammate — but we need folks who show up, take this role seriously, and understand that every interaction at that table reflects directly on our organization and the people we serve. What we're looking for: Outgoing and personable. You enjoy talking to strangers, starting conversations, and leaving people with a smile. Knowledgeable about VOAWW's mission. We’ll give you the information and materials to prepare you, but we’ll expect that you can speak to it confidently and authentically. Dependable and trustworthy. When you commit to an event, people are counting on you — your teammate, the organization, and the community. Weekend availability. Most community events happen on Saturdays and Sundays. Own transportation. Events are spread across the county — you'll need reliable transportation to get there and back. Able to carry up to 25 lbs. Tabling means carrying supplies — banners, materials, tables, donations. Light lifting is part of the gig. What you get out of it: You’ll get to attend these events and make great community connections. The satisfaction of putting good into the world. A solid group of like-minded volunteers to work alongside. And the knowledge that you're helping VOAWW do what it does best — showing up for people when they need it most. If you are interested, please respond- we will be setting up an orientation this month. :) Agency: Volunteers of America Western Washington Be the face of Volunteers of America Western Washington!!!
