Volunteer: Drive Seniors to Essential Medical Appointments During COVID-19 Outbreak - North Seattle

While many of us are practicing social distancing, there are many low-income seniors and adults with disabilities who need essential medical transportation to their cancer treatments and dialysis. If you can help even once a week, it would make a huge impact in getting our clients to their life-sustaining treatments. This qualifies as an essential service that volunteers can provide.

A little background on Volunteer Services:
Volunteer Services, a program of Catholic Community Services, assists low-income elders and persons living with disabilities. Volunteers can provide assistance with light housecleaning, transportation, grocery shopping, home repair and yard care. With a little help from volunteers, clients can continue to live independently in their homes.

Due to the vulnerable population we serve, volunteers must complete an application, pass a background check, and attend an orientation.

Volunteer: Provide a Class Meal for Homeless Families in Renton

Vision House is a Christian social service agency based near Seattle, Washington. Since 1990, Vision House has provided housing, support services and child care for homeless families with children.

We are seeking individuals or groups who are willing to provide dinner for families recovering from homelessness.  We provide life skills classes for our residents, and need a simple dinner for approximately 20, which will enable parents to attend the class.  There is no need to serve the dinner, just deliver in disposable containers.  These classes are held on Monday and Thursday evenings, though another drop-off time can be arranged.

Helping just one time is wonderful, and hugely blesses our staff and residents!

Volunteer: Cook and Package Hot Meals for Homeless Young People

Join us in supporting young people in Seattle's University District! Teen Feed works with the community to offer support to meet basic needs, build strong relationships, and ally with homeless youth as they meet their future off the streets. Teen Feed meets youth nightly with a hot, home-cooked, and nutritious dinner along with access to basic needs and caring adults. Street Outreach teams meet young people where they're at, providing resources and access to youth-centered case management.

Since COVID, Teen Feed has transitioned to hot to-go meal service. Volunteers will help cook or package hot meals in our kitchen, which will be distributed to young people by trained staff. Dinner volunteer opportunities available in the University District from 6:30 - 8:30 pm.

**Some safety considerations: We are asking that at this time anyone who may fall into a high-risk category does not participate in person at dinner. Please reach out if you need further clarification on what "high risk" might look like. Additionally - we are working to limit our in-person teams to no more than 3 or 4 individuals at a time in order to comply with social distancing. Face masks required at all times, do *not* come in person if you are feeling unwell or have any symptoms of illness.

The minimum age is 15, must be accompanied by a parent or guardian until age 18.

Click "respond" and we will follow up with you to schedule a shift!

Volunteer: Help meet basic needs!

In this crisis, the already vulnerable individuals and families whom we serve are facing extreme hardship and difficult survival decisions.  REST is responding with safe spaces for survivors to rest, food and basic necessities, and rental assistance.  But the need is well beyond our budget!

Many of our clients, who have successfully gotten out of the sex trade, are now losing the jobs they fought so hard to get.  They need your support with food and rent assistance.  We know that times are challenging for all.  We know that many people who want to give may not be able to right now- and that is ok.

But if you can give right now, please do.  Grocery cards and Orca cards are any easy way to make sure that our clients have access to food and expand the area in which they can work.  Help us offer hope to victims of sexual exploitation.  Your support can make a world of difference in someone's life, and possibly keep them from being homeless once again at the end of all of this.  Email me at lisa@iwantrest.com if I can answer any questions for you!  Thank you!!

Volunteer: Edible Hope COVID-19 Response (Summer)

Donating is the fastest way for you to make a difference as we grapple with the impact of the Coronavirus. Donate at https://www.stlukesseattle.org/give. If you are able to purchase XL non-latex gloves for food prep, we are in desperate need.

If you would also like to give your time, we would love to have the help. The process of cooking, packaging, and safely distributing food to our guests has overwhelmed our very committed but dwindling number of volunteers able to serve during this pandemic. We need help from our wider community to keep serving around 100-200 vulnerable neighbors.

Volunteer: Support Families in South King County during COVID-19

https://www.childrenshomesociety.org/donate

In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, many families who were already food-insecure now find themselves with children out of school — children who ordinarily received more than half of their daily nutrition at school through free and reduced-price meals.  These families often make trade-offs with other living expenses and employ coping strategies to secure such household items as toilet paper, toothpaste, soap, or disposable diapers.

Children’s Home Society of Washington is dedicated to helping these families now more than ever.  Consider donating today to support our efforts to help families in need in King County.

Suggested Donations:

https://www.childrenshomesociety.org/donate

Fred Meyer, QFC, Safeway Gift cards between $25-$100

We will be distributing these resources in compliance with COVID-19 public health recommendations.

To Donate:

Volunteer: Support RIFC & SWEL Bilingual Preschools with glove donation!

RIFC and SWEL's mission is to provide a high quality part-time preschool experience for children ages 3-5 in a warm, nurturing, culturally relevant environment. We create an environment where children can continue to live out their childhoods. We believe children learn best when the curriculum is child-centered, play-based, and emergent, based on their interests and passions. We also believe that by thoughtfully planning social experiences, activities, environments, and teacher-child interactions we facilitate children’s success in kindergarten and beyond.

With our reopening after this COVID19 outbreak, we continue to follow the best health and safety protocol to keep all staff, families, and children safe.

We've encountered that the use of GLOVES is flowing quickly.

If you are able to donate boxes of single use, powder free gloves please connect with us and respond to this opportunity! They can be delivered at 6535 Delridge Way SW or we can schedule a no contact delivery at that address.

Volunteer: Dental Volunteers Needed at Emergency Dental Clinics

Thank you for your willingness to help care for our neighbors affected by this pandemic.

In response to COVID-19, Medical Teams International has shifted normal operations to focus on two key objectives:

Partner with community health agencies to provide emergency dental drop-in clinics. Use of our mobile clinic vehicles as "support" centers for our partner sites as they conduct drive-thru COVID-19 testing.

With these two objectives in mind, we are in need of volunteers to help support our first focus - that of providing emergency dental drop-in clinics.

We need volunteer dental professionals to provide and support emergency care at each of our clinics. These can be Dentists, Dental Hygienists, Dental Assistants, or Dental Students.

As of now, the clinics in Pierce County occur at the following day and time:

These clinics are located at St. Clare Hospital in Lakewood and are from 9 am until 3 pm.

Apply today by clicking on the following link:

https://www.cognitoforms.com/MedicalTeamsInternational1/VolunteerApplication.

Select "Mobile Dental" as your area of focus. When it asks if you have already been assigned a clinic, please type in Pierce County.

As you are aware, this is a rapidly changing situation and we may need to either expand or scale down operations as we look at how best to support local health systems and safely serve beneficiaries during this time. We greatly appreciate your willingness, patience, and understanding.

We hope you and your loved ones are staying safe and healthy during this time.

Volunteer: Drive Seniors to Essential Medical Appointments During COVID-19 Outbreak - FEDERAL WAY

A little bit about Volunteer Services:
Volunteer Services is a program of Catholic Community Services. VS provides volunteers who help with the living independence of low-income elders and people living with disabilities. Volunteers are matched to someone based on their interest and volunteering is done on YOUR schedule, in YOUR neighborhood! Just help once to four times a month doing housework, shopping, transportation, yard work, minor home repair, and companionship and make a huge difference in someone’s life.

Due to the vulnerable population we serve, volunteers must complete an application, pass a background check, and attend an online orientation.

This groundbreaking new model combines interdisciplinary assessment and diagnosis of Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders (FASD) with evidence-based therapies for children, supports for the entire family, and community education to reduce shame and stigma.

We are looking for a pro bono attorney to review the new forms and service agreements given to the families we will be serving at the clinic to ensure all parties' rights and responsibilities are clear and tenable. This work can be done remotely, outside of regular business hours if needed.

Volunteer: COVID Code Red Responder

America’s blood centers need donors #NowMoreThanEver. The COVID-19 pandemic is devastating our blood supply: blood drives have been canceled and donors are afraid to visit centers. The American Red Cross has recommended hospitals reduce blood product utilization by 25%. This is a deadly shortage that affects millions, including anemic, transplant, cancer, surgery, sickle cell, trauma, and pregnant patients. There is no alternative for blood.

In response, we have launched our COVID Code Red campaign to support blood centers and the healthcare system. The goal of this campaign is to start a social movement to bring greater awareness and rally young people nationwide to advocate for their local centers. UBI leadership would provide support to those volunteers or Code Red Responders. Responders have the opportunity to make a substantial impact on the health of their community and give back during this hard time.

Volunteer: Alpha Supported Living Services is asking for In-kind donations to keep our clients and staff safe in their homes

Right now, our main challenge is finding the necessary personal protective equipment, cleaning supplies and other supplies necessary to serve our clients and the staff in their homes. As people continue to deplete the stock in the stores, we are trying to secure gloves, gowns, masks, goggles, disinfecting wipes and sprays, bleach, hand sanitizer, hand soap, paper towels and other supplies necessary to properly disinfect the homes and provide protection for our staff and the individuals we support. There is a lack of resources, so we are worried that our current supply will not last throughout this crisis.

Unlike other businesses, we can’t follow the recommendations from the CDC and Department of Health and have our staff work from home. Our staff provide 24-7 care in the homes to the individuals we support, so we need to continue to provide staffing in the homes.

Specific items we are in need of currently are:

Hand Sanitizer

Disinfecting Spray

N-95 Masks

Grocery Store Gift Cards for our clients

Our staff have been very creative at finding sources of PPE and other necessary products but when we find them we must act fast. Monetary donations are gladly accepted to go directly to our COVID19 response.

You can mail your donations to:

Alpha Supported Living Services

16030 Juanita Woodinville Way NE

Bothell, WA  98011 or go directly to our website

www.alphasls.org

Our office is closed to visitors and volunteers, please contact Dave Bushnell at dbushnell@alphasls.org if you have any questions in regards to your donation.

Thank you so much for helping us!

Volunteer: Help Attain Housing clients weather the COVID-19 crisis

Attain Housing houses and supports with case management services 37 King County families transitioning from homelessness in apartment homes in Kirkland and Bellevue. We also keep housed Eastside families at risk of eviction by providing rental assistance. For 31 years, we have served as a staple on the Eastside helping families experiencing or at risk of homelessness.

The COVID-19 crisis has hit the most vulnerable neighbors in our community the hardest. Clients in Attain Housing's safe and supportive transitional housing program are all extremely low-income, living on an average annual salary of about $10,000. Our Stable Home clients are also low- to moderate income, and 2 of every 5 are disabled.

Donating is the fastest way for you to make a difference as we grapple with the impact of the Coronavirus. If you would also like to give your time, we would love to have the help.

Immediate needs:

Eviction prevention: As low-wage workers in East King County are sent home from their jobs with no pay, or need to stay home with children whose schools or day cares are closed, Attain Housing's Stable Home program keeps them housed with immediate funds to help cover their rent. Help your vulnerable neighbors with a donation to Stable Home.

Transitional housing: Attain Housing families are struggling to pay their rent, utility, transportation and food costs due to layoffs, reduced hours, and for many, the need to stay home with children whose schools or day cares are closed. Each household pays a rent based on 30% of their monthly income or at least $150. The average rent paid is $365 per month.  Our case managers are helping their clients manage their stress, connect to resources, and if possible, add more hours at a different job. Your donation immediately helps these families transitioning from homelessness.

Volunteer: Help KCSARC Support Survivors of Sexual Assault & Vulnerable Families

PLEASE HELP KCSARC SUPPORT SURVIVORS AND VULNERABLE FAMILIES

The King County Sexual Assault Resource Center wants the community we serve to know we are continuing full operations during the COVID-19 public health emergency. This includes our 24-Hour Resource Line for help and information at 1.888.99.VOICE, as well as therapy, family education, legal advocacy and other supports for survivors and their families. All services are offered in both English and Spanish.

Survivors face enormous barriers to justice and healing under the best of circumstances. The majority of families KCSARC serves are further stressed by closures of workplaces, schools, childcare and more. They are anxious about loss of income and supports ushered in by the crisis.

As we absorb the unanticipated costs of new technology needed in order to deliver uninterrupted services, our nonprofit is also scrambling to respond to clients’ escalating needs for basics like groceries, transportation, or housing to make it possible for them to participate in therapy and engaged in their legal cases.

Over the last three years, demand for KCSARC’s services has increased 22% and has held steady. As we respond to survivors who are now facing enormous additional barriers to healing, our nonprofit’s resources are stretched thinner than ever.

PLEASE HELP KCSARC SUPPORT SURVIVORS AND VULNERABLE FAMILIES

We are counting on the support of community members to help us continue delivering the services and supports that survivors and vulnerable families need to heal, especially during these challenging times.

Volunteer: Support Emergency Hotel Stays and Meals for Vulnerable Clients

Donating is the fastest way to make a difference as we navigate the impact and ever changing landscape of this virus. If you would like to give your time, please see our post for Food Distribution Volunteers.

Catholic Community Services’ ARISE shelter is responding to the COVID-19 pandemic in order to protect and support the homeless community in Renton. ARISE is sheltering medically fragile and elderly individuals and families experiencing homelessness in hotels in order to prevent vulnerable people from contracting COVID-19. Sheltering vulnerable individuals in hotels allows for social distancing at the main shelter. Hotels provide a safe place for clients to “stay home” in accordance with current public health and state orders. Catered and delivered meals support nutrition and allow everyone to stay inside as much as possible. Reducing the need to leave the hotel minimizes possible exposure and spread of the virus in the community. As the pandemic evolves the number of clients needing to shelter in hotels will increase. ARISE is also hiring an additional staff member to sanitize the shelter. CCS is requesting cash donations in order to ensure that clients will be able to stay in hotels and receive meals until the crisis is over. Donations will be used to pay for hotel stays, catered meals for guests, and additional staffing costs.

To donate directly to ARISE shelter, visit the ARISE donation page.

Volunteer: Emergency Hotel Stays and Meals for Vulnerable Clients

Donating is the fastest way to make a difference as we navigate the impact and ever changing landscape of this virus. If you would like to give your time, we would also welcome that. Please see our request for Food Distribution Volunteers.

In order to protect those most vulnerable to serious complications if infected with Covid-19 and to allow for social distancing at congregate shelters, Catholic Community Services is placing elderly and medically fragile individuals and families experiencing homelessness in hotels throughout King County. Hotels provide a safe place for clients to “stay home” in accordance with current public health and state orders. Catered and delivered meals, one a day Monday through Thursday and three on Fridays per guest, support nutrition and allow everyone to stay inside as much as possible. Reducing the need to leave the hotel minimizes possible exposure and spread of the virus. Currently, we are housing and providing meals for approximately 33 individuals and 6 families. This number is consistently growing as more clients are identified. CCS is requesting cash donations in order to ensure that clients will be able to stay in hotels and receive meals until the crisis is over. Donations will be used to pay for hotel stays and catered meals for guests.

Volunteer: Donate Supplies to a Meals Program

For 31 years, Catholic Community Services Issaquah Meals Program (IMP) has been serving hot, nutritious dinners to anyone in need, no questions-asked, Mondays-Fridays. Since COVID-19 entered our communities, IMP remains open and will continue to provide hot meals and a warm, dry space for those who have nowhere to go. However, we anticipate more individuals and families utilizing our services during this challenging time.

To help us accommodate for the anticipated growing need, we are asking financial contributions and also for supplies such as paper plates, paper cups, napkins, hand sanitizers, and disinfecting wipes for our dedicated volunteers that serve meals each night for proper and safe clean up. If you are interested in serving meals during this time or to coordinate supplies drop off, please contact Griffin Cole at 425-679-0342. We understand it is not possible for everyone to serve meals due to health concerns, we always appreciate meal donations. Please note that meals must be prepared in a commercial kitchen under supervision of someone with a food handlers permit. Additionally, there is an application process for those who would like to serve meals.

The fastest way to help our efforts is to make a financial contribution to help support our efforts. Donations can be made on our website:

Volunteer: Help Pike Place Market workers during COVID-19

Pike Place Market is the soul of Seattle - we are 500 local businesses, 400 senior residents, specialized social service agencies, and thousands of local workers, artists, and friends. And the Market Foundation needs YOUR help in sustaining the future of this vibrant Market community!

In this COVID-19 crisis, our staff is raising vital funds and helping community members navigate pressing needs such as Market Community Safety Net requests, unemployment filings, food access, housing referrals, and so much more.

There are 3 ways you can help the Market community in its greatest hour of need:

1. SHOP LOCAL – Essential food business at Place Market are open and have delivery, take out and online ordering options. Flower farmers, artists and specialty shops rely on online shoppers at this time. Please be intentional on how you spend your money to help small, local businesses survive this economic crisis.

2. DONATE TO OUR MARKET COMMUNITY SAFETY NET – This fund supports individuals who live, work or access services in the Market community, are facing a sudden financial crisis and need support to regain stability. Since the COVID-19 crisis emerged 2 weeks ago, the demand has skyrocketed and we anticipate the need will overwhelm our existing system. We’ve already received more than 1,000 calls for support.

3. GIVE TO OUR SPRING HYGIENE DRIVE– Give new and unused toiletries to keep our Market community services and clients healthy in this time of need.

No matter your contribution, you can make a difference to the Market community at its greatest time of need

Volunteer: Health Care for All-Washington Board of Directors

The covid-19 crisis is a deafening wake-up call of the inadequacy of health care availability and access in America, and of the fiscal politization of our public health system. Health Care for All Washington has long advocated for universal access and coverage of health care. Our mission is high quality, sustainable, affordable, publicly financed, privately delivered health coverage for all Washington residents. We seek to eliminate the stark disparities in health and health care by race, ethnicity, class, gender, and citizenship status; and to expand and rebuild our public health system capable of rapid response and resiliency in the face of contagion or catastrophe.

Most of us want to make a difference, to leave the world a better place. People who have health problems, or who would be financially devastated by an illness or accident, are on the sidelines of life.  .We believe that Health Care for All Washington is making a difference, because access to health care enables admittance to life and all she has to offer:  liberty, freedom, and the pursuit of happiness. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. said, “Of all the forms of inequality, injustice in health care is the most shocking and inhumane.”

Formed in 1994, HCFA-WA is the oldest grassroots organization in Washington that is solely dedicated to bringing about publicly funded, privately delivered universal health care. Two-thirds of its Board of Directors are healthcare professionals, providing expert guidance and insight into the development of public policy. And we have been effective. HCFA-WA was instrumental in the progression and passage of the Pathway to Universal Health Care Bill, as well as the Cascade Care Bill, in 2019. This year, HCFA-WA advanced several bills containing costs of prescription drugs and addressing the cost of insulin; the bills we incubated passed with nearly unanimous support.

We seek individuals committed to the evolution of our health care system. While we always need and welcome providers in healthcare, HCFA-WA is in need of those with backgrounds in financial analysis, budgeting, fiscal policy, legal compliance and disclosure, public relations, and communications, governance, and development.

Purpose of New Board and Committee Positions

Determine the policies and board procedures necessary to advance single-payer universal health care in Washington; strengthen the organization’s research and policy development; ensure the organization is operating at peak efficiency and in full compliance with all applicable laws and intent; expand HCFA-WA’s membership; raise funds to support the operation of HCFA-WA’s programs; and directly advocate in the public policy arena.

Term: Three years, eligible for re-nomination thereafter. Meeting Attendance Monthly board meetings (12) per year, in person or by ZOOM Standing committee meeting (serve on 1 or 2; meetings vary) Ad hoc committee (as appointed) Special events (as announced) Occasionally: Program events as announced (as a board representative), Training in board membership Annually: Board Planning Retreat (June), Annual Meeting (October/November) Primary Board Member Responsibilities Develop and ensure policies and procedures that are in harmony with the agency’s mission. Ensure effective program planning, development and accountability. Secure financial and other resources required to support, sustain and grow HCFA-WA legislative and policy efforts by mobilizing the active participation of all volunteers and supporters. Ensure the financial affairs for the agency are conducted on a responsible basis in accordance with the law, established policies and donor designations. Specific Duties of Individual Board Members Understand HCFA-WA: believe and act on its mission, goals, objectives; and advocate for HCFA-WA within the community; promote HCFA-WA in ways appropriate to your profession and contacts. Attend meetings - regularly, on time, and throughout for the entire meeting. Be well informed and prepared on all meeting agenda items. Participate fully and openly in meetings – share insights, ideas and suggestions based on experience and professional expertise. Consider and respect other points of view, make constructive suggestions and help the board make prudent group decisions. Participate as an active member on at least one standing committee, as well as any special ad hoc committees to which appointed. Be a financial supporter of HCFA-WA, making an annual contribution appropriate to your personal circumstances. Assume leadership in HCFA-WA funding and resource raising efforts Provide counsel, advice and encouragement to the Board President. Assist the President in understanding the community and partner with her/him in furthering the CIS mission. Recruit other volunteers – board members, committee members, and program volunteers.

Volunteer: Volunteer Response for COVID-19

During these challenging times we are experiencing a significant decrease in donations.  Serenity is in need of financial help as well as in-kind donations of supplies to feed our horses.

We have 22 horses on our 10 acre farm that are being supported 100% by donations. Some of whom are in various stages of rehabilitation.  Please consider donating to support the horses at Serenity by going to our webpage and clicking on Donate or making an in-kind donation by calling Reber Ranch and crediting our account so we can pick up hay, grain and supplements.

As an animal care facility, we are covered under "essential businesses" under Washington State's Stay Home, Stay Healthy initiative. We cannot care for all our animals without our volunteers. If you have time to spend on the farm we are accepting volunteer applications through our website as well.  Please consider coming to the farm and joining our Volunteer Family  www.serenityequinerescue.com/volunteer or www.serenityequinerescue.com /donate

The person running the front desk will wear gloves, as all volunteers are required. If volunteers want to bring their own masks, they are welcome to. Without actually entering the building, the neighbors will approach the check in station.   Volunteers and neighbors will continue being at least 6 feet apart. The neighbor will be able to request clothing upon check-in and the volunteer will find the item for them. Once registered, the neighbor will walk over to the loading dock area where they will receive a prepackaged bag or box of food. Volunteers will continue to wear gloves during the entire procedure.
