Volunteer: 2026 MLK: Community Meal VolunteersCommunity Meal volunteers create a positive experience for all our guests as they reflect on all the day's activities over a wonderful boxed meal. The location of the end of march rally (and community meal site) is still to be determined - your volunteer lead will communicate in early January with information on where you will gather and other details. The start/end time may vary based on location. A few guidelines for volunteers: Volunteers working in the tents will be required to wear closed‐toe & low heel shoes – you will be on your feet a long time! When working around food, hair needs to be tied back or covered w/ a hat. Gloves will be used for service. There may be lifting so let us know if you are unable to lift 25 lbs and we’ll assign you to a non-lifting role. Have a food handler's permit? That's helpful but not mandatory! You may be split into sub-teams to focus on specific tasks. The end time is an estimate and with lots of people to help we may finish earlier! Volunteer: Disasters harm families. Can you help?Every day, the American Red Cross sees the heartbreak of people trying to cope with more intense storms, heavier rainfall, higher temperatures, stronger hurricanes and more devastating wildfires.
As more people rely on the Red Cross for help, the need for compassionate volunteers has never been greater.
Volunteers help comfort and support people who are forced from their homes due to fires, storms and other emergencies, so they don’t have to face tough times alone. Join us and turn your compassion into action by becoming a volunteer today. We are actively recruiting for these critical volunteer roles:
Shelter Support Team: During large disasters, you can support the day-to-day activities within a shelter which may include working in reception, registration, feeding, dormitory, information or other areas within a shelter. Free online training will be provided. If the need arises, volunteers are asked to commit to multiple local shifts of 4-12 hours each. For those able to travel outside of their local area, a commitment of at least 14 consecutive days, working 8- or 12-hour shifts is required.
Disaster Health Services Team: During large disasters, you can use your professional skills as a licensed healthcare provider to deliver hands on care and education to shelter residents. Free online training will be provided and can count towards nursing continuing education units. If the need arises, volunteers are asked to commit to multiple local shifts of 4-12 hours each. As a Disaster Action Team volunteer, you can help comfort and support people in your community by meeting any immediate needs such as food, shelter, clothing or supplies and connecting them to long term recovery services. Volunteer: Charity Calls For Volunteers To Write Christmas Cards To People Who Are LonelyLoneliness at Christmas has always been a particularly prevalent issue, but no more so than in 2020, with the coronavirus pandemic ripping families apart. So, we thought it was important to find a way to reach out to those in need this year - introducing The Angel Card Project. Founded in the US by volunteer Mark Martin, the organization encourages volunteers to sign up to write as many cards as they wish from a database of lonely individuals, nominated by the public. These could be elderly people, alone because of the pandemic, army veterans or simply people who had fallen on hard times and found themselves without a support network. And the idea of the project was to encourage "sending love, one Christmas card at a time". Our hearts. First started in 2001, the project originally only had 20 volunteers and ran on a very small scale. But now its amassed thousands of supporters from countries across the globe, all of whom want to pick up their pens and offer their support to the cause. Last year, they sent out a whopping 71,000 Christmas cards, and they hope to surpass this number next month.
To sign up, all you have to do is put your name and email into the website: www.theangelcardproject.com and you'll be contacted. To learn more, visit: https://www.theangelcardproject.com/volunteer-to-send-cards; https://www.facebook.com/angelcardproject/
