For those able to travel outside of their local area, a commitment of at least 14 consecutive days, working 8- or 12-hour shifts is required.

 

Disaster Health Services Team: During large disasters, you can use your professional skills as a licensed healthcare provider to deliver hands on care and education to shelter residents. Free online training will be provided and can count towards nursing continuing education units. If the need arises, volunteers are asked to commit to multiple local shifts of 4-12 hours each. For those able to travel outside of their local area, a commitment of at least 10-14 consecutive days, working 8- or 12-hour shifts is required. Qualified licenses include RN, LPN, LVN, EMT, Paramedic, MD, DO, PA, NP, APRN. Only RNs have full scope of practice.

 

Disaster Action Team: While big hurricanes and wildfires get the most news coverage, smaller disasters are no less devastating to the families affected. Most of the 60,000 emergencies that the Red Cross responds to each year are smaller disasters like home fires. As a Disaster Action Team volunteer, you can help comfort and support people in your community by meeting any immediate needs such as food, shelter, clothing or supplies and connecting them to long term recovery services. We depend on the kindness, love and homes of our foster parents to help us save hundreds of lives every year.  Members of our foster care program open up their homes for shelter animals.  They care for kittens or puppies until they are old enough for adoption, animals with illnesses and injuries until they are healed, and animals who need socialization or those who are not thriving in the shelter environment.  The time commitment varies upon the needs of the foster pet, but generally is between 2 weeks and 3 months. 

 

Fostering is a flexible, fun and rewarding volunteer experience, and requires a special person- able to invest themselves into the lives of foster pets, and let them go knowing they’ve helped save a life.  We provide all supplies foster parents need, from food and bedding to medication. While it is best to have some knowledge about animal behavior and health, we always try to match foster parents with animals whose needs are within your ability level, and we provide ongoing help and support throughout your foster experience. 

 

If you have your own animals, you’ll want to consider how they will adjust to having a foster pet. Some animals do very well with a temporary friend and can help socialize the foster animal. Other pets have a harder time with new animals being added to or leaving the family. SAN does have a large chest freezer and access to multiple refrigerators and enough storage to be able to store items.

Volunteer: Prep cardboard car pieces!

Mobius Discovery Center encourages children to jump headfirst into fun through STEAM-based exhibits. We need a group of 10-20 volunteers to help prep supplies for Superstruct -- an exhibit where guests build cars and other creations out of cardboard, tape, and straws. 

We need your help with the cardboard pieces. They come in large sheets with perforated shapes that need to be punched out. It's a fun, easy activity for groups of volunteers, plus it's a huge help to Mobius. We see an average of 1,000 visitors each week -- that's a lot of cardboard pieces!

Shifts are flexible and may occur on Mondays or Tuesdays. Volunteers must wear closed-toe shoes.

We have volunteers who come to the Wiener Ranch and hug dogs.  This is the easiest gig ever if you like dogs.

We are located on a farm northwest of Spokane and out of town.  There is no bus line to this area so you will need a car and drive yourself to visit us.

I am open for visitors at 10 am daily ONLY with an appointment in advance.  We need to have large watch dogs locked up so no one is injured.  If roads are too icy or dangerous we are also closed then as well.

Please wear long pants and closed toe shoes as dog toe nails can scratch when jumping on laps.

STAR students love their volunteers. If you enjoy spending time with 3rd-5th graders, they want to meet you! Mentors receive training from Spark Central to help encourage and develop STAR students’ creativity and build positive, playful relationships with them. Expertise in visual arts, performing arts, entrepreneurship, and other subjects explored in the program are not required - all you need is a desire to share yourself with these cool kids!


A year of STAR is organized into three units that engage students in investigative performance arts, technology and entrepreneurship, and large-scale visual art projects. After several parents engaged us to create a program that will support West African kids with their academic, life and social skills needs, in February of 2022, WAWAC finally created what we call our "BIDEWW" (STAR) After School Program. WAWAC's BIDEWW/star after-school program and homework club seeks to create a culturally appropriate fun and new learning environment that fosters social skills, and provides learning opportunities for our kids through exciting semi-structured activities such as science experiments, cooking classes, arts projects, singing, dancing, music, cinematography, storytelling and more at a culturally appropriate setting for free of charge.

Since the kids spend a lot of time at school where they learn in a structured and formal environment, the BIDEWW After School program is done in a free environment where they still learn fun stuff that they create themselves. Additional recreational activities are also held to encourage them to stay active, healthy, and connected with one another.

This is also a platform for West African kids to interact, learn from each other and build their own community. It is available to school-aged children 5 to 17 years old in Snohomish and King Counties twice a week. Through this platform, the kids of our community explore their artistic instincts through collaborative art projects. It holds significant value for our kids because it inspires them to be creatively driven at an early age. An opportunity that they don't ordinarily receive from their parents, as many West African parents deem art a "waste of time," grossly depriving kids of the possibility to explore their creativity. We pride ourselves on opening our program to a wide range of African kids tailored to their unique needs, identity, and values.

After successfully implementing the pilot Bideww After School program in Snohomish County in September 2022, WAWAC partnered with School’s Out Washington to start a similar program in King County.

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The WAWAC Bideww After School Program Assistant assists the Program Director (PD) in implementing programs outside of school hours for West African children in Washington. His/her role includes:
Assisting PD with Planning, preparing, and implementing an approved curriculum that includes language studies, math, art, social/life skills, and African culture and realities.
Aiding PD with snack time/bathroom
Assisting PD to keep students' mannerisms on point.
Assisting PD with keeping track of newly enrolled students.
Oblige PD with keeping track of all necessary documents relating to the program such as incident reports, compliance forms, transportation request forms, etc.
Implementing daily lesson plans and activities that focus on developing children’s social, life and motor skills.
Study each weekly curriculum given by PD for preparedness.
Follow PD’s schedule provided and any direction given.
Coordinating with PD and assisting with UW student volunteers.
Attending meetings and capacity building training organized by WAWAC funding partners and submitting reports to PD as needed in a timely manner.
Assisting children with assignments and homework, such as reading, writing, and math.
Following and learning materials and equipment, such as books, arts and crafts supplies, stationery, and other necessary items.
Interacting with the children to provide guidance, emotional support, and motivation to complete tasks.
Engaging and meeting with PD to discuss any reports/incidents.
Assisting PD manage the Bideww WhatsApp group chat.
Maintaining an organized/safe environment and helping students learn skills that help them conduct themselves appropriately.
To aid the emotional and social-interactive growth of children, enabling them to communicate their joys as well as their frustrations appropriately.
To encourage the social, physical, and intellectual development of children who attend our after-school program.

Most of our walls have up to 4 ft of sheetrock and insulation removed.  That needs to be taped,replaced.  Walls textured and painted.

Our deck facing the river got some damage from the flow. Some structural damage. 

 

We need some electrical work done (wall heaters replaced etc.)

We are planning our next in person training group and would love to hear from you!

We have an ongoing need for everyday people to volunteer as Guardians ad Litem (GAL) to represent to the court the best interest of our children in care. There are over 200 children in Skagit county who are abandoned or victims of abuse or neglect. We need people in our community to be a voice for these children. Our next training is coming up and we would love to tell you more about how you can advocate for an abused or neglected child.

VGALs are community volunteers who are appointed by judges to advocate in court for abused and/or neglected children. When a child is in danger living at home, the Department of Children, Youth and Family (DCYF) may step in and say that the child needs to be moved to a safe environment. In order to determine what circumstances will keep the child safe, the case is brought to court where a judge will rule where the child should go.

Once a case is brought to court, the judge appoints a GAL volunteer to the child. The GAL volunteer researches the child's situation - this includes talking to the child as well as the child's parents, teachers, counselors... anyone who plays a significant role in the child's life - and then forms an educated recommendation as to what is in that child's best interests to maintain well-being and encourage safe permanency. Once the GAL volunteer determines the child's best interests, they write a report to the judge recommending a home placement (returning to their previous homes, foster care, staying with relatives...) and services to address any unique, unmet needs that the child has.

GAL volunteers spend an average of ten hours a month working on a case, though typically they spend more time at the beginning of a case than they do towards the end. Cases generally last at least a year, and we ask that each volunteer commits to remaining a volunteer as long as their case is open. Children face a constant rotation of judges, social workers, and foster homes, but all the while their GAL volunteer remains a stable and constant adult in their lives. Training is 30 hours over the course of 4 weeks.

Be part of a joyful fundraising day that supports Believe in Me’s work for marginalized youth. Volunteers are essential — you’ll meet great people, support scholarships and programs, and help deliver a smooth, fun event. All volunteers receive training, a volunteer t-shirt, lunch, and a heartfelt thank-you from the Believe in Me team.

General Expectations (all volunteers)

Shift length: Typical shifts are 4–10 hours, depending on role. Day-of roles often have morning (6:00–12:30), afternoon (11:30–5:00), and evening (4:30–8:30) shifts. Exact times will be confirmed after signup.

Training: A brief orientation/training session before the event (in-person or virtual). Role leads will run short on-site briefings.

Age requirements: Most roles are open to volunteers 18+. Cash handling, alcohol service support, and driving/shuttle duties require additional documentation.

Attire: Volunteer t-shirt provided; comfortable shoes and weather-appropriate outerwear recommended.

Duties: Help prepare sponsor packets, follow-up emails/calls, schedule sponsor meetings, track sponsor materials.

Skills: Comfortable on phone/email, basic CRM use (Salesforce/GiveButter helpful).

Ideal: Great for people who love sales/fundraising.

2. Auction & Prize Intake Coordinator — 4 needed

Duties: Log auction donations, create descriptions/certificates, photograph items, coordinate pick-up/drop-off, assemble silent-auction displays.

Skills: Good organization, inventory systems, photography and spreadsheet skills.

3. Print & Materials Prep — 3 needed

Duties: Coordinate printing of signage, programs, name badges, assemble sponsor packets and player gift bags.
