As a museum volunteer, you are our direct link to the public. Understanding the complexities of substance use we strive to provide life-preserving resources and services that respect the autonomy and choices of those we serve. Our Volunteers will play a vital role in the preparation, packaging, and distribution of outreach items and care packages to help our community. The work may also require lifting between 30 to 50 pounds of donated items, so volunteers should be physically capable of handling these weights. Volunteers will support the Food Access Network (FAN) team by helping with food pick-up from our food bank partners across King County. This will involve manually unloading food from trucks and transporting it to our Makeki (Market), where they will help stock the shelves. Volunteers will also assist with breaking down boxes, managing operations during Makeki (Market) hours under the supervision of the FAN team, and helping to close Makeki at the end of each operational day. Enjoy the art exhibitions and behind-the-scenes experiences! Docents are a highly committed group of volunteers who are an essential part of MoNA.  They help foster appreciation and understanding of exhibitions and provide a friendly welcome for visitors.  They receive first-hand information and training from artists and professional staff about the exhibitions and how to present to the public. In addition, docents are invited to special social and educational activities including excursions to other museums, private collections and artists' studios. Involvement as a docent is an enriching, educational experience. The Northwest Railway Museum is seeking friendly and enthusiastic volunteers to join our Docent Program, helping share the Museum’s stories, collections, and working railroad with visitors.

Docents lead guided tours of the Railway History Campus, including the Train Shed Exhibit Hall and the Conservation & Restoration Workshop (CRW). This role is ideal for individuals who enjoy storytelling, engaging with the public, and bringing history to life.

The Northwest Railway Museum is seeking dedicated volunteers to join our Train Crew, supporting the operation of historic trains during regular service days and special events throughout the year.

Train Crew volunteers play a critical role in safely operating trains, assisting passengers, and preserving the Museum’s living railroad history. This opportunity is ideal for individuals interested in learning railroad operations in a structured, safety-focused environment.

Train Crew volunteering follows a progressive qualification system, allowing volunteers to build skills and responsibility over time. New volunteers typically begin in entry-level roles and may advance as training and experience are completed.

Help restore and preserve historic railroad equipment at the Northwest Railway Museum!

Are you interested in hands-on projects, learning practical skills, or connecting with Washington State and railroad history? Volunteers in our Conservation & Restoration Workshop (CRW) work directly with historic coaches and locomotives, helping ensure these artifacts are preserved for future generations.

CRW volunteers may assist with:

Woodworking and carpentry

Painting and finishing

Metal work and light welding

Mechanical work and maintenance

General restoration and conservation tasks

No prior experience is required — many volunteers learn new skills on the job while working alongside experienced staff and fellow volunteers.

Opened in 2006, the Conservation & Restoration Workshop is an 8,400-square-foot indoor facility featuring two full-length rail tracks, climate control, restrooms, and a visitor viewing gallery. The space is dedicated to the restoration and care of the Museum’s large historic artifacts.

Trip Assistant volunteers agree to assist the Trip Leader and commit to assisting 2 or more trips, on average, each month. In exchange, Trip Assistant's attraction fees and lunch (if applicable; depending on individual trip) will be paid by VOA.

1. Assist in leading a variety of trips for seniors (50+), building relationships and creating welcoming, warm environment.

2.  Ensuring the safety and quality of experience of guests.

3.  Build positive relationships in one-on-one and via small groups to facilitate connection and belonging.

Once interested candidates complete and return the volunteer application form, they will be invited to interview with members of the Council.  Aging & Long Term Care Governing Board approval is required before membership begins.

Interested candidates can also attend a PMC meeting to see the Council in action. 

"A Matter of Balance" (MOB) is an award winning program designed to reduce the fear of falling and increase the activity levels of older adults who have concerns about falls.  Class participants learn to view falls and fear of falling as controllable, set realistic goals for increasing activity, change their environment to reduce fall risk factors and promote exercise to increase strength and balance.

The MOB program utilizes Volunteer Coaches to teach the eight two-hour sessions.  Classes are held in a variety of community-based settings and are led by two Volunteer Coaches. 

Volunteer Coaches receive eight hours of training by MOB Master Trainers.  Once trained, Volunteer Coaches are provided with the opportunity to observe MOB classes prior to teaching classes themselves. 

Volunteer Coaches should possess good communication and interpersonal skills, enthusiasm, dependability, a willingness to lead a small group, an interest in working with older adults and an ability to perform range of motion and low-level endurance exercises.  Experience in education or health care is a plus. 

Do you enjoy helping other people?  By answering people's questions about Medicare, you could make a difference in someone's life.  Our volunteers are trained and mentored so they can answer a variety of questions.  They are not selling or recommending any insurance product, agent, or company.

Each year SHIBA is in contact with more than 4,000 people to answer their Medicare questions and give them guidance.  We need your help to meet the growing demand. 

There are many ways volunteers can help.  One way is by explaining what care is covered.  Another way is looking into and reporting possible fraud.  Or perhaps you enjoy reaching out into the community to let people know where they can turn for help.  Volunteers assist people by phone, in person and through public presentations.  You will learn a lot and make a difference in the lives of others!

Basic computer skills are helpful.  Client confidentiality, a willingness to provide unbiased information, and no association with an insurance company are all a must.  Activities include one-on-one meetings with people who have questions attending update meetings, and getting to know other volunteers.

POSNA currently has a handful of foster homes for a few of our many pets, and we are always in need of more for cats and kittens. Foster care may involve caring for sick or injured animals, pregnant or underage kitties, or animals that have not had much exposure to humans and need a little TLC to become adoptable.

POSNA has a cat shelter located 10 miles south of Newport, WA, off Hwy 2. We are always in need of volunteers to assist with general daily cleaning, including scooping boxes, filling food and water and also spending some time with our resident kitties.

You and a group of 3-4 others can cook and serve breakfast for our elementary school students who attend the before-school care. This opportunity also includes providing breakfast elements (bacon, fruit, etc.).

Before School Care: Begin your day by being a positive presence for Lake Hills Elementary Students before they head to school. Serve breakfast, assist with homework, or invest time getting to know them.

When: 7:00am-7:45am Monday-Friday

After School Care: Come after school to spend time with Lake Hills Elementary students, playing games and helping them with homework as they eat a snack and unwind from the day.

When: 3:00pm-5:00pm Monday-Friday, except Wednesdays. Wednesdays 1:00pm-5:00pm

Commitment Level: Consistent volunteering in the Before and After School Care is encouraged for the children, however there is no minimum commitment level.

We are in need of a handy individual to repair damaged portions of the fencing that surrounds the perimeter of our shelter property in the Diamond Lake area, as well as the chicken wire fencing on our outdoor cat enclosures. General repairs on our shelter building are also needed.

Come and have a sleepover with the children who are staying overnight at The Landing- an emergency placement house for children first entering foster care.  Overnight shifts are from 9pm-7am or 8pm-8am 7 days a week.

The mission of Skookum Kids is to eliminate the pain points that make foster care so difficult, we do this by involving the whole community in the important work of child welfare.  Skookum Kids is a 501(c)3 non profit based in Bellingham, WA.

Every shift looks different at The Landing, since we have a high turn over rate of the children who come to stay.  We care for kids by providing them a safe and fun environment, participating in activities like Summit Trampoline Park, Creativitea, the movies, and LOTS of parks! 

Volunteers are asked to serve for a minimum of once a month. We are open 24/7 and have many shifts to suit your availability. Washington State does require a few things to complete before volunteering, so inquire about this opportunity and meet with our Volunteer Coordinator to get started!

The mission of Skookum Kids is to eliminate the pain points that make foster care so difficult, we do this by involving the whole community in the important work of child welfare.  Skookum Kids is a 501(c)3 non profit based in Bellingham, WA.  

This monthly event is an awesome (and easy!) way to support foster parents and caregivers in our community.  Volunteers are needed from 5:40-8:45 pm to provide childcare, snacks and games with kids while their caregivers take a few hours off! 

We are eager to host Family Night Out the first Friday in October and November this fall!

The Food Distribution Center is able to accept cases, crates and pallets of food, up to semi-truck loads that require loading docks and forklifts for transfer.

Volunteer at Paradise Parking Plots Community Garden and support our refugee neighbors! Our 2-acre community garden provides space for refugee, immigrant and Kent resident gardeners to grow cultural foods and reconnect with the soil. Our shared spaces, such as our food forest, rain gardens, pollinator berms, and restoration areas need a lot of love and attention to stay healthy, productive, and beautiful. Volunteers help to ensure this shared site stays maintained and safe for gardeners to continue grow and nature to thrive.

Do you have weekly or bi-weekly availability to help in the garden? We need you! Consistent, returning volunteers are essential to the health of our garden. And best of all, no prior skills are required! We will train and develop you over time so you can work on increasingly more complex tasks like weeding our food forest, controlling pests and diseases, assisting with minor construction projects, managing our mason bees, or whatever else catches your interest and will enhance our community space. Disaster Action Team (DAT) Duty Officers are the behind-the-scenes heroes who coordinate local emergency responses as they unfold. From the comfort of your home, you’ll ensure that people affected by disasters receive the care and support they need by dispatching trained volunteers to the scene.

When housing is disrupted in communities due to a large disaster it can be tough for many individuals to secure new long term consistent/reliable housing. The Shelter Resident Transition Service Associate assists shelter residents and disaster victims create long term personal plans to overcome obstacles and transition into a stable housing solution. They play an important role in minimizing disaster caused displacement and aid in long term recovery.

Do you have a Flexible schedule that would allow you to deploy for two weeks to support communities impacted by disasters? The Red Cross is looking to train willing individuals over 18 who want to alleviate human suffering by shortening the time of a disaster caused by displacement. When disasters strike, it takes coordinated efforts of government agencies working alongside nonprofit organizations to quickly respond and help chart the path forward. Volunteers serving as Government Operations Service Associates serve as direct contact with government partners, often in an Emergency Operations Center or other coordination center, during a Disaster Relief Operation to ensure that Red Cross actions are aligned with the government.

Distribution set-up starts two hours before distribution; these volunteers help stock the fridge, freezer, and shelves with food. This role includes standing, walking, and lifting 20-50 lbs.

Distribution check-in starts at least 15 minutes before distribution; these volunteers are given the necessary tools and training required to complete the role before starting. Helping Hands appreciates check-in volunteers who are able to stay the entire distribution and can commit to the role weekly, however we can be flexible and appreciate any help volunteers are willing to provide! This role can be seated or standing, really up to the volunteer. 

Distribution support starts at least 15 minutes before distribution; these volunteers regulate check-in lines, available carts for participants, and re-stocking empty shelves. Help participants carry food to their vehicles when needed, and answer questions when asked. This role can be seated or standing.

The Street Medicine Partnership is an innovative program that connects Skagit Regional resident physicians and a Street Medicine Partnership physician with Community Action clients who do not have homes. Services provided include wound care, medication management, referrals to specialists, and most importantly, building trust and relationships with our Street Outreach Team, who walk alongside people until they are ready to opt into recovery programs and housing. The program gives out approximately 40 first aid kits per month, and is looking for groups or individuals interested in collecting items and putting together first aid kits. VOA’s volunteer Pickleball Ambassadors oversee daily pickleball operations, ensuring a positive experience for all players. In exchange for their ongoing service, Pickleball Ambassadors can enjoy free pickleball play during open sessions at the Sky Valley Center.

Pickleball Ambassador Responsibilities:

o   Ensure a positive environment for all players: welcome new players; orient new players to rules and etiquette; enforce VOA’s Code of Conduct and pickleball rules.

o   Set-up pickleball courts at beginning of session, take down at end of session, and ensure gym is clean and free of debris at end of session.

o   Communicate as soon as possible with Center Manager in event of absence due to illness or unforeseen event; participant violation of Code of Conduct; equipment issues; or facility concerns.

o   Agree to oversee one full pickleball session each week, and communicate with at least two weeks’ notice in event of upcoming absence.

o   Ensure that all players who participate have completed a VOA registration or membership form, have checked in at the Sky Valley Center, and have: 1) paid a daily rate or punch card; 2) receive financial assistance to play; 3) are playing w/ a promotion (ex: free pass, one week free); or are a VOA-approved Ambassador, staff or partner.

For those able to travel outside of their local area, a commitment of at least 14 consecutive days, working 8- or 12-hour shifts is required.

Disaster Health Services Team: During large disasters, you can use your professional skills as a licensed healthcare provider to deliver hands on care and education to shelter residents. Free online training will be provided and can count towards nursing continuing education units. If the need arises, volunteers are asked to commit to multiple local shifts of 4-12 hours each. For those able to travel outside of their local area, a commitment of at least 10-14 consecutive days, working 8- or 12-hour shifts is required. Qualified licenses include RN, LPN, LVN, EMT, Paramedic, MD, DO, PA, NP, APRN. Only RNs have full scope of practice.  

Disaster Action Team: While big hurricanes and wildfires get the most news coverage, smaller disasters are no less devastating to the families affected. Most of the 60,000 emergencies that the Red Cross responds to each year are smaller disasters like home fires. As a Disaster Action Team volunteer, you can help comfort and support people in your community by meeting any immediate needs such as food, shelter, clothing or supplies and connecting them to long term recovery services. Make a difference through YMCA Leaders Club, a leadership development community service program that helps teens discover their full potential. It is a safe place where teens can come and simply be themselves. Leaders Club is a year-long leadership-development program for middle and high school teens. This program provides teens with extensive leadership training and volunteer opportunities that support YMCA programs and services to the community.

As a foster volunteer, you would make a short-term commitment to nurture one or more animals from the shelter in your home on a temporary basis. 

Some cats need a break from living at the shelter.  Providing time in your home helps them get ready to be adopted. Many cats need a quiet patch of sunlight to recover from a cold, for example.

RASKC also offers kittens, rabbits, and dogs to foster too.

Are you in a position to help?

Among the animals that are eligible to be fostered, you choose which animal that will go home with you.

Foster volunteers are given training online and 1:1, great support and everything necessary-- free pet food, free medical care for the kitty, free litter, free litter box, free kennel...

When the pet is ready to be adopted, you may choose to:

   a) adopt to a member of the community through RASKC's Adopters Welcome program, or

   b) bring the animal back to the shelter, or

   c) adopt the animal yourself.

You can decide when the time is right for you to foster-- on an ongoing basis or just every once in a while.

Children may participate in the animal care, though an adult in the household must be the official volunteer.

Community service might be available for school (if okay with the school). Usually 1.5 hours is credited for each day an animal is cared for in your home.

RASKC seeks adult volunteers who are very committed to positive dog-engagement, skilled with a wide range of large, untrained, and very energetic dogs, especially German Shepherds, Huskies, and pit bull terriers and mixes. 

This is exhilarating and fulfilling work!

RASKC seeks an initial commitment of a once-a-week shift for about six months (or alternating-week shifts for about a year), equating to about 50 hours out of training.  The shelter accommodates time off for special vacations and so forth.

Key to success with RASKC dogs is kindness, positive reinforcement, following protocols in getting the dogs in and out of the kennels, and accurately reading and responding to dogs' body language.

Key to RASKC's success: a sense of great teamwork between volunteers and staff.

Typically, you would share a shift with three or four other volunteers.

Volunteers harness the dogs and take them out for exercise, affection, and enrichment. If it's super hot out, then enjoy some nice chill time on a bench under a shady tree with the dog.

Dog walkers are color-coded according to the type of dog they are eligible to walk.

. Green: Most Dog Walkers start as color "green" are eligible to work with our friendliest dogs. Not many green positions, if any, are available, however.

. Blue: Dog Walkers who are assessed as "blue" are eligible to take out the shy dogs and the friendly dogs.

. Red: Dog Walkers who are identified as "red" are eligible to walk any of the adoptable dogs, including the ones that need skillful handling.

RASKC needs volunteers who hope to work with "red" dogs.

A precious bunny would love to receive care in your home for a few weeks (or a few months) until an adopter has been identified or until a spot has opened up at Reber Ranch.

RASKC provides free food, free hay, free supplies, plus free medicine and free medical care for the foster animals.

Foster training is provided online with lots of one-on-one support, if needed, from RASKC's Foster Care Coordinator and/or RASKC's Lead Rabbit Volunteer.

Opening your heart and your home to an animal from the shelter on a temporary basis is one of the very best things you can do to help.

It the situation isn't working out for any reason, you can return the bunny back to the shelter the next afternoon.

Children may assist in the animal care, but an adult in the household would need to be the official foster volunteer.

Community service for school might be available (if okayed by the school). Usually 1.5 hours credit is given for each day caring for a foster animal.

Do you enjoy driving? American Red Cross is looking for volunteer drivers. Transportation specialists will retrieve a Red Cross vehicle and leave the Red Cross in Seattle and pick up blood in the afternoon in Thurston/Kitsap/Grays Harbor Counties.  Bringing it back to the Seattle Red Cross in a safe and timely manner. We also need drivers to leave the Seattle Red Cross at 9am to pick up blood from a variety of blood drives and courier it back to the Red Cross.  You will drive a Red Cross vehicle and we will pay for the gas. 

Drivers play a vital part in helping carry out the Red Cross mission, as each delivery could mean saving a life. The Red Cross supplies 40% of the nation's blood supply, and without drivers, safe blood products would not reach their destination.

Currently looking for help in the following programs:

Winter Basketball League January 5th - February 19th. 

Commitment includes one 45 min practice and one 45 min game a week.

Times range from 4pm - 7:30pm.

Practices are Mondays or Tuesdays and games are Wednesdays.

Meals on Wheels Greater Spokane County is calling on compassionate individuals to help deliver meals to homebound seniors in Spokane County.

With growing demand in all areas, especially within the City of Spokane and northern neighborhoods, we urgently need new volunteers to ensure every senior receives the support they deserve. As a volunteer driver, you'll deliver 10 to 14 meals on a route that typically takes just 1 to 1.5 hours to complete. Most volunteers drive one day a week, but if you have limited availability, we welcome substitute drivers who can fill in as needed.

Volunteering with us is about more than delivering meals; it’s about fostering vital social connections that enhance the health and well-being of seniors. Many of our volunteers are retirees eager to give back, college students exploring meaningful community service opportunities, or families who enjoy making memories while spreading joy to seniors. Partner in Employment's Refugee Youth Mentorship Program matches a community-based mentor with a newly arrived immigrant/refugee youth ages 15-24 in South King County, who will support their integration into a new country and help them thrive. In a trusting one-to-one relationship, these young people will have someone to seek advice in achieving education and career development goals, as well as fostering interpersonal skills and positive identity development. Mentors play a crucial role in youth confidence building through patience, encouragement, and dedication.

We are looking for someone with the knowledge and skills to refurbish used and donated respiratory equipment such as CPAP, BiPAP, Oxygen Concentrators, and Nebulizers.

Vision House is a Christian social service agency based near Seattle, Washington. Since 1990, Vision House has provided housing, support services and child care for homeless families with children.

Volunteers will spend time with Vision House resident children - playing games, reading books, doing crafts. All activities will be planned in advance so volunteers will show up each week and have fun. These activities may seem simple, but without individuals to care for and spend time with the children, then the parents cannot attend crucial life skills training classes.

Vision House is a Christian organization. We ask that, even if you do not share our beliefs, you respect them. While we do not have any mandatory spiritual activities for our residents, we do ask volunteers working in direct contact with residents to sign our statement of faith.

Volunteers must also fill out all necessary paperwork and attend training/orientation with the volunteer coordinator and child advocate. CPR/First aid training is a plus. The minimum age for this opportunity is 18 years and older.

Work with staff and customers in the store environment. Depending on where you are at in life, you can share a wealth of skills and expertise in recycling, upcycling, remodeling and home improvement, customer service, cash handling, sorting and organization OR learn from the experts.

The Builders ReSupply Store is open Thursday, Friday, and Saturday from 9A to 4P. Join us for two hours or more on a periodic basis ranging from every week to once a quarter! Whatever suits your needs! Volunteers will always have the support of staff who are responsible for the store's safe operation.
