Volunteer: Webster Pond Tree Planting and Volunteer Appreciation

Join Trees for Neighborhoods and Dirt Corps for our sixth tree care skill share and volunteer work party at Webster Pond. This work party will include a skill share about how to plant trees and native shrub species, with opportunities to do so in this special wetland ecosystem!

All ages and skill levels are welcome! Please wear clothing that can get dirty, including long sleeves, long pants, and closed-toed shoes. We’ll be working rain or shine, so everyone is encouraged to dress for the weather and wear layers if you can. We’ll provide the tools, gloves, snacks, hot drinks, and water.

Volunteer: Volunteer Online as a Conversation Partner

Ready to change a life from the comfort of home?

Join ENGin as a conversation partner! This is a flexible and unique opportunity to make a direct  impact on someone’s life while discovering a new culture and meeting a new friend.

We’ll pair you up with a learner in Ukraine for weekly one hour videochats at times that are convenient for you. During your conversations, you’ll practice English with your partner, learn about each other’s cultures, and offer an empathetic, authentic space for connection.

No prior tutoring experience or knowledge of Ukrainian language is needed to volunteer with ENGin. We offer ample training resources, session materials, and total flexibility to customize your sessions to fit your/your partner’s goals and preferences. Our friendly team is available to support you throughout your time with us.

Our only requirements for volunteers are English fluency, a strong internet connection, and the ability to commit to one hour a week for a minimum of 10-12 weeks.

Since our launch in 2020, ENGin has matched over 26,000 volunteers with Ukrainians for authentic English-language connection across borders, and we continue to grow every day. 99% of our learners report feeling they were able to break the language barrier as a participant in our program, and 79% of our participants form lasting friendships.

Here's what three ENGin volunteers say about their experience.

"I made a friend in Ukraine and we are teaching each other about our culture, our language, and our humor. We're even trading dad jokes! Both of us look forward to our chats and have a hard time wrapping it up."

“Fantastic organization doing great work. So happy to be a small part of it.  My partner and I have worked together for two years and have become good friends! Her English has become better, and I have become more knowledgeable about Ukraine!”

"This program has been, I think, life-changing for both of us. I really consider her more like my daughter right now. That's how close we have become!"

To learn more about ENGin and become a volunteer, please visit www.enginprogram.org/volunteer.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact our team at info@enginprogram.org.

Volunteer: Disasters harm families. Can you help?

Every day, the American Red Cross sees the heartbreak of people trying to cope with more intense storms, heavier rainfall, higher temperatures, stronger hurricanes and more devastating wildfires.

As more people rely on the Red Cross for help, the need for compassionate volunteers has never been greater.

Volunteers help comfort and support people who are forced from their homes due to fires, storms and other emergencies, so they don’t have to face tough times alone. Join us and turn your compassion into action by becoming a volunteer today. We are actively recruiting for these critical volunteer roles:

Shelter Support Team: During large disasters, you can support the day-to-day activities within a shelter which may include working in reception, registration, feeding, dormitory, information or other areas within a shelter. Free online training will be provided. If the need arises, volunteers are asked to commit to multiple local shifts of 4-12 hours each. For those able to travel outside of their local area, a commitment of at least 14 consecutive days, working 8- or 12-hour shifts is required.

Disaster Health Services Team: During large disasters, you can use your professional skills as a licensed healthcare provider to deliver hands on care and education to shelter residents. Free online training will be provided and can count towards nursing continuing education units. If the need arises, volunteers are asked to commit to multiple local shifts of 4-12 hours each. For those able to travel outside of their local area, a commitment of at least 10-14 consecutive days, working 8- or 12-hour shifts is required. Qualified licenses include RN, LPN, LVN, EMT, Paramedic, MD, DO, PA, NP, APRN. Only RNs have full scope of practice.

Disaster Action Team: While big hurricanes and wildfires get the most news coverage, smaller disasters are no less devastating to the families affected. Most of the 60,000 emergencies that the Red Cross responds to each year are smaller disasters like home fires. As a Disaster Action Team volunteer, you can help comfort and support people in your community by meeting any immediate needs such as food, shelter, clothing or supplies and connecting them to long term recovery services. We supply all the training you need.

Volunteer: Host a Peanut Butter Drive!

Donations are an essential part of getting food to our partner programs, food pantries, meal sites, and shelters in Pierce County. However, we see a decrease in food donations even though the need for food has increased. You can help by hosting a Food & Fund Drive with EFN! The food you donate will go directly to our 75+ Partner Programs to give to our neighbors in need. The funds you raise will be used to purchase food and pay freight for donated truckloads of food (if you decide to raise funds).

We want to encourage you to collect peanut butter for your drive! Peanut butter is a very versatile food and great source of protein, so we love receiving it.

Register your food drive here: https://efoodnet.org/driveform/

Volunteer: Parade of Lights - Support Crew

About the Event
The Parade of Lights is one of Walla Walla’s most beloved holiday traditions, a sparkling night filled with lights, laughter, and community spirit! Our group will proudly represent inclusion and joy as participants walk, roll, or ride alongside our float, sharing smiles and spreading cheer with the community.

Your Purpose
As a member of the Parade of Lights Support Crew, your energy and care help us safely shine during this joyful community celebration. You’ll walk beside participants - some walking, some in wheelchairs, and others riding on the float, helping them stay safe, comfortable, and engaged throughout the event.
Treat everyone with dignity and respect. Speak to participants as you would any other teen or adult, be a friend.

What You’ll Do

Walk alongside participants during the parade, helping keep the group together and maintaining a safe, steady pace.

Support participants who are walking, rolling, or riding by offering verbal encouragement and gentle assistance as needed.

Safety Note: This is a Level 3 high-risk event for elopement. Stay alert and aware of your surroundings. If a participant moves toward the crowd, curb, or leaves the route, calmly follow, redirect, and alert staff if you need assistance.

Keep the energy fun and festive: cheer, wave, and celebrate with participants!

Help with costumes, float decorations, and transitions before and after the parade.

Provide reassurance and enthusiasm; your presence helps participants feel confident and included.

What to Bring / Know

Dress warmly and festively (lights, scarves, hats, or fun accessories are encouraged!): just please no Santa or Grinch costumes, as those are reserved for parade officials and our participants are not fans of the Grinch.

Wear comfortable, closed-toe shoes suitable for walking and standing.

Expect cool evening weather: layer up and bring gloves if needed.

Bring your positive energy and readiness to help where needed.

Your support ensures participants experience this event safely, joyfully, and with dignity.

Volunteer: Volunteer Tutors Needed in Seattle Public Schools!

Volunteer with Invest in Youth

Invest in Youth has been providing tutoring support to students across Seattle for more than 20 years! We match each volunteer tutor with a single student for the entire school year, which fosters a truly meaningful relationship for the student and the tutor. Our program is provided free of charge to all families and schools we work with. We hope you'll join us!

HOW IT WORKS:

Volunteer tutors are paired with a 3rd, 4th or 5th grade student for a full school year.

From October through May tutors and students meet once per week for an after-school tutoring session (exact location/times can be found here). We ask volunteers to make a commitment to the whole school year.

Tutoring sessions are held at the student's school, last one hour and are supervised by a school coordinator - support and heartfelt appreciation are provided at every tutoring session.

Volunteers can expect to help students with their homework, read books together and work on math problems, all while serving the important role of a mentor.

Apply today by pressing the "respond" button and we will be in touch!
