This virtual role provides follow-up and recovery planning services for individuals and households following home fires or disasters, including referrals. Caseworkers make initial contact with the client within 48 hours of the disaster. Work with clients to get connected with resources. All training is provided.

Disaster Action Teams provide 24-hour emergency response to local disasters, particularly house fires, ensuring that those affected have access to resources for basic necessities such as food, shelter and clothing.

Our DAT team is responsible for:

Providing timely in-person response to disasters and assisting those affected. Responding to disaster scenes as assigned by Team Leader within two hours. Meet the needs of those affected by disasters such as the need for shelter and food by providing Red Cross Services.

Provide referrals to other agencies.

Communicate to Team Leader about availability and readiness on a regular basis.

As a Community Engagement & Partnerships (CEP) Service Associate you’ll connect with local partners to build capacity, coordinate activities, integrate expertise, and ensure that all disaster-affected communities, including traditionally underserved populations, have access to Red Cross services.

Your volunteer role involves implementing the CEP plan, engaging with organizations, and supporting multi-agency collaborative efforts to promote regional engagement and inclusive partnerships.

The Shelter Resident Transition Service Associate assists shelter residents and disaster victims create long term personal plans to overcome obstacles and transition into a stable housing solution. They play an important role in minimizing disaster caused displacement and aid in long term recovery.

                    American Red Cross Blood Transportation Specialist 

Do you enjoy driving? American Red Cross is looking for volunteer drivers. Transportation specialists will retrieve a Red Cross vehicle and leave the Red Cross in Seattle and pick up blood in the afternoon in Thurston/Kitsap/Grays Harbor Counties.  Bringing it back to the Seattle Red Cross in a safe and timely manner. We also need drivers to leave the Seattle Red Cross at 9am to pick up blood from a variety of blood drives and courier it back to the Red Cross.  You will drive a Red Cross vehicle and we will pay for the gas. 

Drivers play a vital part in helping carry out the Red Cross mission, as each delivery could mean saving a life. The Red Cross supplies 40% of the nation's blood supply, and without drivers, safe blood products would not reach their destination.

Volunteers help comfort and support people who are forced from their homes due to fires, storms and other emergencies, so they don’t have to face tough times alone. Shelter Support Team: During large disasters, you can support the day-to-day activities within a shelter which may include working in reception, registration, feeding, dormitory, information or other areas within a shelter. Free online training will be provided. If the need arises, volunteers are asked to commit to multiple local shifts of 4-12 hours each. For those able to travel outside of their local area, a commitment of at least 14 consecutive days, working 8- or 12-hour shifts is required.

Disaster Health Services Team: During large disasters, you can use your professional skills as a licensed healthcare provider to deliver hands on care and education to shelter residents. Free online training will be provided and can count towards nursing continuing education units. If the need arises, volunteers are asked to commit to multiple local shifts of 4-12 hours each. For those able to travel outside of their local area, a commitment of at least 10-14 consecutive days, working 8- or 12-hour shifts is required. Qualified licenses include RN, LPN, LVN, EMT, Paramedic, MD, DO, PA, NP, APRN. Only RNs have full scope of practice.

Disaster Action Team: While big hurricanes and wildfires get the most news coverage, smaller disasters are no less devastating to the families affected. Most of the 60,000 emergencies that the Red Cross responds to each year are smaller disasters like home fires. As a Disaster Action Team volunteer, you can help comfort and support people in your community by meeting any immediate needs such as food, shelter, clothing or supplies and connecting them to long term recovery services. We supply all the training you need.

Purrfect Pals Cat Sanctuary

Love cats and want to make a difference? Join Purrfect Pals as a volunteer at our biggest fundraising event of the year, the Black Cat Ball, on Saturday, October 24 at the Edmonds Waterfront Center!

The Black Cat Ball raises critical funds to provide food, shelter, and medical care for hundreds of cats in need. Event volunteers play an essential role in making the evening a success while enjoying the excitement of a premier fundraising gala.

You will support presenters and manage room capacities so the schedule stays strictly on track. Key Responsibilities: Liaise with workshop presenters and ensure they have water/setup support.

Welcome attendees to workshop rooms and assist with seating. Provide polite 10-minute, 5-minute, and wrap-up cues to presenters.

Set-Up & Break-Down Crew (3–5 Volunteers) Role Overview: You are the physical backbone of the event. You will transform the UnitedHealthcare site into a vibrant, welcoming space in the morning and safely pack everything away at the end of the day. Key Responsibilities:

Set-Up: Unload event supplies, arrange vendor tables/chairs, and set up signs.Mid-Day Float: Keep pathways clear and assist vendors with quick logistical needs.

Break-Down: Help vendors pack up, fold tables/chairs, and ensure the space is left clean.

Requirements: Ability to lift up to 25–30 lbs and stand/move for extended periods.

We are in need of a volunteer to deliver meals in West Seattle Wednesday mornings, as needed when one of the weekly drivers will be away. Drivers arrive around 8:30 am and are typically done with their route in 1 to 2 hours. Training is provided and mileage is reimbursable while making deliveries.

Qualifications: Good communication and people skills, flexibility, attention to detail, and a commitment to the well-being of homebound elders. This is an on-going volunteer commitment.

Requirements: Complete an application, consent to a background check, be able to lift 15lbs and navigate stairs, be at least 18 years of age, and have a Washington state driver's license and auto insurance.

Caritas FB is set up like a grocery store where the client can self select their items while keeping their dignity in tact. Volunteer will set up staging areas prior to distribution. The volunteer will walk the client thru to assist in selections and item limits. You will use a cart, pencil, and log sheet. Once client has finished, the items will be weighed and documented. There will be set up for the next days distribution and light cleaning at the end of the shift. Volunteer will need to be able to stand, walk slowly, bend, some light lifting. We ask for a minimum of twice a month at 3 hours per shift. Shift hours 9-12:30, 10:20-1:45

A project of Zero Waste Washington, Fix-it Fairs are community gatherings bringing neighbors together to provide free repair services to the public while reducing landfill waste and passing on vital skills. These hands-on events are open to everyone and provide an empowering opportunity for individuals to learn how to repair items – like small appliances and electronics – for themselves and others. The events are held at revolving sites around town, with the goal of making them accessible to more people in more communities.

What gets fixed? We invite people to bring items in need of repairing or mending that might otherwise be thrown away, such as bikes, jewelry, clothing, small appliances, furniture, toys and electronics. 

What do volunteers do? Volunteers help with a variety of event-prep activities: setting up the space, placing signage, helping guests get their items checked in, getting those items to the appropriate repair station, taking photos of guests with their repaired items and more.

Bellingham At Home (BAH), a non-profit membership organization, is a virtual Village in Bellingham WA empowering older adults to stay active and engaged while living in their own homes and neighborhoods.  It is a program of the Whatcom Council on Aging.

The Village is powered by volunteers who provide “good neighbor” assistance to older folks in our community. Volunteers provide transportation to medical appointments and other services in Bellingham, take members shopping, provide companionship, complete light home repairs and garden maintenance, and other tasks as needed.  (BAH does NOT provide medical assistance, personal care, nor ongoing cleaning and maintenance tasks.)

MSC's Food Bank distributes food to individuals and families. Make a difference in our housing community by delivering fresh groceries to our community food pantry! This volunteer position has a direct impact on our resident's access to fresh groceries by picking up food donations in Kenmore and delivering them to our housing in the Central District. This position is well-suited for friends or partners who would like to volunteer together to make a difference in the greater Seattle area.

By volunteering with PHC you will be directly involved in building community and connections among residents. Many of our residents are negatively impacted by chronic mental health conditions, trauma, and homelessness. Individuals in this position will be lifting boxes up to 40lbs, walking short distances while carrying 40lbs, driving their personal vehicle, and cleaning out the community pantry.

Mentors help recently arrived refugees become acquainted with the surrounding community and face the challenges of resettling in a new country. This is a critical period when refugees need assistance learning the basics of life in a new place, including things like public transportation, the banking system, public schools, managing personal healthcare, conversational English and getting involved in their community. Mentors meet with an individual or a family for two hours per week during their first three months in the U.S.

Volunteer for the Whatcom County Farm Tour! 

Sustainable Connections is looking for volunteers to help make the 2026 Whatcom County Farm Tour a success on Saturday, September 12. 

The Farm Tour is a free, family-friendly event that connects community members with local farms and the people who grow our food. This year, visitors will have the opportunity to explore 14 farms throughout Whatcom County, and we're seeking volunteers to help welcome guests and keep the event running smoothly. 

Volunteers will staff registration and information booths, greet visitors, provide directions and basic event information, check guests in, and accept donations. 

Shifts available: 

No experience is necessary, and all volunteers will receive training and materials before the event.

It's a fun and rewarding way to support local agriculture, meet new people, and spend a day at one of Whatcom County's beautiful farms.  Interested in volunteering with a friend?

Some locations can accommodate two volunteers per shift.
