Position:  Other Bank (OB) Distribution Volunteer 

Reports to:  OB Program Coordinator 

Summary:  The OB Distribution Volunteer helps with product distribution during the designated distribution times.  Provides friendly and patient customer service to patrons of the program.  Shift is once a week for 2 hours.   

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: 

Greet guests and helps them register and/or place order using the order form. 

Understands program criteria and rules and clearly explains them and answers questions. 

Fills guest orders from the form. 

Can make pleasant conversation with guests, is patient and helpful with non-native English speakers, welcoming and warm with all guests including children. 

Can hold to firm but gentle boundaries. 

Accept donations and follow all procedures for tracking and storing. 

Keep Other Bank tidy and organized. 

Requirements: 

Professional appearance and helpful, friendly manner. 

Must be punctual and dependable. 

Basic customer service skills and ability to serve in a busy environment. 

Basic computer skills preferred but not essential. 

Strong written and verbal communication skills, second language skills a plus but not required. 

Must be self-directed, willing to take direction and initiative, and be detail oriented. 

Must respect and maintain confidentiality of guests, donors, and other volunteers. 

Training and Supervision:  OB Volunteers receive the Volunteer Manual which outlines all policies and procedures for the position, and also receive in person training on their first day of service.  Follow up training is available as needed and questions are encouraged.  Volunteer is supervised by the OB Program Coordinator. 

Evaluation:  Informal, verbal evaluation occurs after the first month of service.  Check-ins with the Executive Director or Program Coordinator on performance, strengths and challenges occur annually. 

Time Commitment:  This position is a weekly 2-hour shift of service in-person at the Resource Center for a minimum of 6 months.

Mentoring is an amazing experience for both the mentor and mentee. You can make a positive impact on this 13-year-old, who lives in West Bremerton. He is looking for a mentor who will participate in fun activities. His favorite subjects in school are math and history. His favorite things to do with people is play basketball and football, as well as video games. He's interested in knowing more about possibly becoming an engineer and wants to learn how to weld.

Bakers wanted! Our homeless guests love to get something sweet along with their meals, but we don’t always have desserts. We’re looking for people to provide desserts for 150 people. This includes cookies, brownies, muffins, and cakes, which can be baked offsite and delivered to us. This can be a fun project for your community group, school, or church!

This is a fun group project you can do at your convenience! Make sandwiches to be distributed in our Dispatch Center. It can be difficult for us to gauge how many people will come to our nightly meal, so it’s important we maintain a constant stock of sandwiches to pass out if we run out of food early. For 30 years, FareStart has been providing meals to our community to offset food insecurity and relieve hunger.  Volunteers help with a variety of tasks to help supplement a large amount of work that goes into creating between 1,000 – 2,000 meals each day.  A great opportunity for hands-on volunteer work and team building. 

Volunteer Duties: Volunteers will help prepare meals by completing basic preparation tasks; for example: assembling boxes for meal transportation, stamping meal bags, portioning, cleaning produce and more. FareStart staff will assign tasks based on individual skill and comfort level.

After you sign up for this opportunity a FareStart staff member will contact you and provide detailed directions and instructions.

Parking: Is available in Galaxy Building Garage ($16), a lot across the street ($14), or on the street for free. Bus routes 24 and 30 stop along the street.

Attire: Volunteers are asked to wear sturdy, closed-toed, non-slip/rubber-soled shoes and full-length pants. Please refrain from wearing nail polish.

The participant enjoys socializing and drinking coffee. Core volunteers are the foundation of support that StandUp for Kids relies upon to offer support to homeless youth in Kitsap County.  Volunteers may choose from a number of roles to support our mission.  Those roles include: 

Food Bag Assembly: Periodically work with others to prepare weekend food bags, which are distributed to homeless and at risk youth through the school systems. 

Inventory Support: Periodically organize items which are packed into weekend food bags.  May include assisting with picking up donated or purchased items from local outlets. 

Delivery Driver:  Our primary distribution method is to supply schools with food and hygiene packs.  The school partners then distribute them to the students.  Delivery is generally one day on either Wednesday, Thursday or Friday.  Personal vehicle is necessary to deliver packs. 

Food Drive Support– Help in two hour shifts at food drives, which provide a significant contribution to our weekend food bag distribution. 

Community Outreach Booth Worker– Help in two hour shifts at events like Pride, Whaling Days, etc.  Represent StandUp for Kids, sharing information about how we can help homeless youth, and how people can volunteer or donate to support our efforts. 

Fundraising Auction Support: Assist with our annual auction.  Many opportunities to help at our Fall Gala Fundraiser.

Community Action’s Senior and Disabled Volunteer Services Program is one of the largest volunteer based programs in the area that meets one of the greatest needs by providing this population of individuals with dignity and a safe, healthy home.

Come help us keep our community fed. We need Drivers to help get food out to the community.  As the largest independent food bank in Pierce County, we are the #1 food delivery service. We provide delivery service weekly to clients who are not able to get to the food bank due to age, disability, or lack of transportation. We also provide delivery to over 100 clients weekly at JBLM.

Eloise’s Cooking Pot has the largest food bank delivery program in Pierce County. As a Driver you will pick up and deliver food and other donations from specific locations.  A Volunteer Driver must have a Driver’s License with a good driving record, Proof of Insurance, and provide their own vehicle.  If providing delivery to JBLM, must have access.  For volunteer safety we provide a designated area to pick the boxes up for deliveries. There are measures in place for safe delivery to the clients.

The Food Bank is open for Walk-In service (Tuesday through Saturday) and Drive-Up (Friday only). Services are delivered in designated areas for volunteer and client safety.

Wednesday is our biggest day; we have a pop-up food bank at the Tacoma Dome and the need is great on that day where individuals and groups are encouraged to apply.

This position offers opportunity for creativity! Community Action's family shelter, The Family Development Center, houses 10 families at a time in fully furnished apartment-like units. HIP serves freshly prepared, healthy lunches to seniors as part of Lake City Senior Days three days a week. We are looking for a check-in volunteer who'll greet program participants, check them in (either using a scanner or on paper), and make them feel welcome in that space.

This role will also involve helping seniors check in for a second meal, distributing monthly menus and signup forms, collecting donations, and generally being a point of contact for program participants. We have openings on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, from 12 to 1:45 pm, but anyone who could help on any day would be helpful.

We host an annual event - a poetry contest open to residents of all ages.  For close to 20 years, local poets have been sending us their outstanding creations.  The committee that does all the leg work to make it happen is seeking new members.  You need not be a poet, just interested in helping the arts thrive in our community.  Let us know if you might like to lend a hand.

Committee members collect the poems, select the judges, arrange the celebration of winners, and join forces to provide the rewards that are presented to winners.  Meetings are held to discuss the tasks at hand and assign the duties involved.  We're a fun bunch, & dedicated to keeping this tradition alive in Whatcom County.

Bridge Disability Ministries is looking to place volunteers in our new equipment office location in Redmond!

The Equipment Repair Volunteer will assist with the cleaning and repair of donated durable medical equipment. This needs to be a person who is handy with tools and has mechanical repair knowledge and experience.

We are looking for volunteers who can commit to a weekly schedule of about 2 hours for one to two days a week. And we are hoping that person is you!  

As a food organization, we go through many rags and aprons and we'd love your help with laundry! We provide a document with instructions on how to thoroughly clean rags and aprons.

The laundry would be picked up from the HIP kitchen (3841 NE 123rd ST, Seattle, Washington) on Friday afternoons after 12:30 pm. Drop-off can be anytime on Monday, although it’s slightly easier after meal prep is finished at 11:30 am onwards.

This is a weekend volunteer opportunity.

Help our visitors bring part of their BIMA experience home by volunteering in BIMA’s Museum Store! We’re looking for volunteers who want to share their talents in the store and provide customer service and support in a fun and ever-changing environment. The BIMA Museum Store specializes in extending the visitor experience by offering locally produced and designed products that highlight the art and craft of the Puget Sound Region. Store volunteers will be a core point of contact with all visitors, and must be comfortable with initiating conversation, helping customers to access store merchandise, learning our point-of-sale system, handling money, and maintaining a general knowledge of store vendors and artists. If you have previous retail experience or customer service experience, this may be a great opportunity to assist the store team in extending the mission of BIMA.

Safe Harbor Stables in Redmond Washington is seeking dedicated and energetic volunteers to assist with daily barn chores. This is a highly physical role that directly supports the well-being of our rescue horses. No horse experience is necessary and we will train you to do the job.  

As a Barn Chore Volunteer, your responsibilities will include: 

Cleaning horse stalls and paddocks 

Scrubbing grain pans and sweeping barn aisles and shelter mats

Hunger Intervention Program's Senior Meal program prepares meals on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays for Seniors. While the majority of meals are served at the Lamb of God Church, a portion are delivered to homebound Seniors in the north Seattle area. HIP is looking for volunteer delivery drivers to deliver meals twice a month on Mondays during the lunch hour.

For this position, we're looking for someone who can commit to a 1.5-2 hour shift every other Monday from approximately 11:30 am-1:30 pm. The Neighborhood Farmers Markets (NFM) is on a mission to support and strengthen Washington's small farms and producers by creating and operating vibrant, successful neighborhood farmers markets. Our seven markets serve over 165 producers, from vegetable growers and orchardists to tribal fishing families and cider makers. In 2023, they enabled more than $14.5 million in local, sustainably-produced food sales to Seattle residents. The Board is actively working to recruit 2 to 3 new board members this Spring, as well as non-voting committee members to support the mission of NFM and the market community. Standing board committees with non-voting members include Executive, Finance, Vendor and Fundraising. We are looking for board members who possess:

• A passion for Washington state producers and our regional food system

• Prior nonprofit board experience

• Experience in any of following areas: fundraising, board development and governance, finance, small business development, food systems or food retail, community organizing, or real estate

Board Responsibilities: The NFM Board of Directors provides mission-based leadership and strategic governance and sets policies to ensure the organization is run effectively, legally, and ethically. The NFM Board has a fiduciary responsibility and approves long-range goals for its growth and expansion, approves the annual budget, evaluates the Executive Director, ensures adequate funds to support programs, and ensures that funds are spent responsibly.

Board Members should be willing and able to:

• Commit to a 2-year board term with the intention to stay for 6 years

• Attend all board meetings, plus events and engagement opportunities in the markets throughout the year

• Review the agenda and all supporting materials prior to meetings • Be informed about the NFM mission, policies, and programs

• Make NFM part of their giving plan or secure support for the organization that reflects that priority

• Actively serve on one of the committees such as Vendor (limited to farmers), Marketing & Development, Finance or Executive.

• Participate in annual recruiting efforts to ensure the future leadership of NFM

• Approve the annual budget and assess the financial health and performance of the organization

• Evaluate the success of NFM in meeting its mission

• Serve as a link between the NFM and the community by serving as an ambassador for the organization and its mission

• Follow conflict of interest, ethics, and confidentiality guidelines

• Farmer Board Representatives additionally approve all requests to the Good Farmer Fund and Market polices

At Senior Care First, we believe that any sized effort to make a difference is a difference nonetheless. Making cards for seniors have such a huge impact on their days. Volunteers like YOU help them feel a little less alone each day. This effort started with small motivational cards for senior citizens to help them get through this day, and has grown to include seasonal cards for the holidays.

Writing cards for seniors is not only to put lighten up the days of seniors but also to let them know there is a support system outside of their homes filled with loving young members of their community. There is no specific way to make the cards since YOU, the volunteer, have creative liberty. However, we encourage volunteers to use bright colors and inspiring messages to share love for the seniors. We have heard several positive messages from senior homes after receiving cards from SCF. From writing general motivational and inspiring cards to holiday related cards, we give them all.

Grooming and relationship building with the animals naturally flow into the volunteer experience.

Help Purrfect Pals cats find their forever homes at our cat adoption center at Renton PetSmart! Our Renton PetSmart adoption center is fully staffed by volunteers who care for the cats and match them up with potential adopters. We are always looking for more help from cat lovers with a few hours a week to spare. We ask for a commitment of 2 hours per week for at least three months.

The Department of Natural Resources ANeMoNe program is currently seeking volunteers to be Site Guardians for our Case Inlet and Anderson Cove monitoring sites. Site guardians visit the monitoring site once every other week and perform a bird survey, eelgrass survey, and check our water sensors for biofouling. Work is approximately two hours per visit. 

We provide training and gear. In general, this work does not require background knowledge or experience but there is of course lots of opportunity to learn!

Our volunteers play a vital role in helping to provide groceries to children, families, and seniors in need within our community. We invite you to join us in making a difference by volunteering in any number of our volunteer roles - check-in desk to interview clients, assisting in restocking, repackaging food items, supporting our grocery rescue program, or directly serving those we support. PEPS is a non-profit organization that connects parents to strengthen families and build community through parent peer-support groups. 

PEPS groups meet weekly and are facilitated by a PEPS-trained Leader. Each meeting allows parents the opportunity to share the week's concerns, successes, issues, and joys as well as time for a discussion on topics related to parenting and children (sleeping, feeding, adjusting to parenthood, etc.) The PEPS program model is based on the 5 Protective Factors from Strengthening Families, which help build resilient families, positive connections and support for parents, and reduce negative outcomes, such as abuse and neglect. 

98% of PEPS groups are facilitated by volunteers who are deeply rooted in our community and passionate about supporting new parents through the first critical months of life with a new baby. Over 4000 families rely on PEPS volunteers each year.

PEPS facilitators are compassionate, empathetic, resourceful, and real. They don't have all the answers, but they are passionate about helping parents, generating ideas, finding information, and building neighborhood communities together.

Some leaders give back as a way of honoring their own PEPS experience. Many are new to PEPS. All tell us they find great joy and satisfaction in helping new parents connect and share through their PEPS groups.

We appreciate warm, sensitive communicators, who are accepting of varied child-rearing practices and diverse lifestyles. Interest in early childhood development, experience in education or facilitation, previous PEPS group participation, or being a parent yourself are welcome pluses.

Groups meet for 2 hrs each week in the daytime [10-:30 - 12:30] or in the Evening [6:30 - 8:30], the same day each week for 12 weeks. Leaders commit to working with their group for 12 consecutive weeks, fewer if you choose to co-lead with a friend, spouse, partner, or colleague. PEPS provides specialized training and group leaders have access to experienced PEPS staff mentorship and a wealth of resources online.
