Volunteer: Staff the Capitol Hill Tool LibraryJoin our crew to learn new skills, connect with your community, and have lots of fun. No prior experience required! How we serve the community The Capitol Hill Tool Library empowers our neighborhood to build DIY skills and improve sustainability, through offering tool borrowing, workspace, and classes. Our inventory includes over 3,000 items, ranging from ice cream makers to hedge trimmers to sewing machines to drills. Our workshop has spaces for woodworking, jewelry making, and 3D printing. And our classes cover everything from backpacking to kombucha brewing wood shop safety to tax prep. We're an entirely volunteer staff, and everything we offer is free or pay-what-you-can so that we can serve everyone in the community. What skills you’ll need Absolutely none. Really! Many of us (including the person writing this listing!) came to the tool library with no DIY, woodworking, or "maker" experience at all - just an interest in connecting with our neighborhood. It’s very easy to learn on the job. What you’ll do We're open six days per week, for three hours each day. You'll pick a day to come in for, where you and one or two other tool librarians will serve patrons and improve the library. This includes checking tools in and out (like a library book), organizing inventory, helping patrons plan their projects, designing outreach and signage, and repairing broken items. During your first shift, you’ll get an orientation from an existing volunteer and we’ll help you find tasks that you enjoy. Why you’ll be excited Staffing the tool library is a fun, rewarding way to connect with your community. You’ll meet your neighbors and help them with projects that they’re infectiously enthusiastic about. You’ll also learn a ton through your own tasks - whether it’s by cataloging new inventory, chatting with patrons, or opening up and trying to repair items. You’ll do all this while working as a team with other sociable, community-minded tool librarians who are excited to make Capitol Hill a better place. You'll also have a chance to meet tool librarians from other shifts at our monthly volunteer potlucks. Final ask Please let us know your phone number so our volunteer coordinator can reach out to you. (There's no way within United Way's interface for us set this as a requirement, unfortunately.) Volunteer: Volunteer Mentor at Greenlake Elementary "Lunch Bunch"Become a volunteer mentor! Join a fun community! Rally Club Seattle is recruiting mentors for its “lunch bunch” group mentor community for the 2026/27 school year. Programming takes place onsite at Greenlake Elementary School in NE Seattle (2400 N 65th St, Seattle, WA 98103) weekly on Mondays from 12-1pm (approximately). Rally Club focuses on community and making meaningful connections. Connectedness not only has a powerful protective effect on mental health, but also improves other youth outcomes such as academic competence, concern for others, and confidence. Caring mentors like you create a welcoming, fun, and inclusive community that youth want to be a part of. Time is spent in larger group activities as well as in small groups and in giving individualized attention. Activities are tailored to youth need and interest. Some great reasons to join: -Community is good for all of us, and volunteering has measurable health benefits. -Our group format allows for others to cover absences, so although we ask for a once a week, semester commitment, it’s realistic. -You can join with friend! It’s not only fun, but also provides the kids with healthy examples of adult friendships. Agency: Rally Club Seattle Become a volunteer mentor! Join a fun community! Volunteer: Volunteer mentor for one of our incredible students in the Bellevue School District!Rainier Athletes' (RA) mission is to affirm our youth’s sense of purpose and belonging by intentionally connecting their core community of teachers, coaches, families, and mentors. RA is a long term mentoring organization that begins walking alongside students and their families in 4th grade and continues through high school graduation and beyond. Each student is matched with a dedicated mentor who meets with them weekly, fully funded to participate in year round sports and activities, and supported as they explore and advocate for their unique identity. No experience with sports, mentoring, or working with youth is required. Trainings are held throughout the year and you’ll have support from our dedicated team whenever you need it. RA students are not just athletes, but are also artists, activists, engineers, and up-and-coming philosophers. Their passions are a way that we engage in a deeper conversation with them and their supporters. So no, you don’t have to love sports! RA mentors are volunteers with diverse backgrounds, skill sets, and interests. Volunteer mentors meet with their mentee once a week at the mentee’s school. After check-ins, mentors share a report with their mentee’s family, teachers, and coaches. RA mentors are bridge builders, strengthening relationships beyond their one-on-one connection to the student by uniting the student’s entire Core Community of supporters. We call this approach ONE Team Mentoring! Mentors typically spend 1 hour per week between meeting with the student, and communicating with their parents, teachers, etc. We ask mentors to commit for at least one full school year. Check ins are typically held on Thursdays or Friday afternoons. The level of involvement outside of weekly check-ins is up to you. Mentors rave about the extra time they spend attending activities like sports games and milestones like birthday parties, graduations, and quinceañeras. Volunteer: Become an Ally - Work one-on-one with a person experiencing homelessnessWe need volunteer allies!! We currently have a waitlist of participants needing social support and allyship. As an ally, you'll provide companionship, connect clients with resources, serve as a liaison with their case manager, and help them achieve their goals. The best part is that you can do all this at a pace that suits you and your partner-participant. Our primary focus is on fostering connection and building a trusting relationship. Depending on your preferences and availability, you may be paired with a guest at the Gardenview Village tiny homes or with an individual in the community. Being an ally is not just a volunteer role; it's an opportunity to make a significant difference in someone's life. Road2Home provides a community of fellow allies to learn from and connect with. We also offer in-depth training for allies that covers trauma-informed care, setting boundaries, strategies to help clients achieve their goals, local resources, and more. This comprehensive support ensures you feel prepared and confident in your role as an ally, ready to make a positive impact. Being an ally requires a six-month commitment, during which you meet with a client in person at least twice a month and are available for phone calls or texts. To help ensure a successful Ally experience, you must complete a Road2Home volunteer training class and an Ally orientation before being assigned a program partner. These sessions are designed to introduce our work, enrich your understanding of homelessness in our community, and help ensure a rewarding volunteer experience. You will also have access to our experienced staff trained in trauma-informed principles to guide you. We want your Ally Program experience to be rewarding for you and your partner! Volunteer: Eye clinic assistant managerHere's a great way to help your fellow man and earn karma points while you're at it. The Haskell Lions Eye Clinic provides FREE eye exams and glasses to low-income homeless, immigrant, and elderly residents, using only volunteers and donations. Open two afternoons a month, the clinic itself doesn't require much of your time. Yet there's work behind the scenes that's required to make things run right. You'd be helping the clinic manager review and input applications, contacting applicants to make appointments, help schedule our volunteers, and other administrative tasks, along with being the manager's right arm on clinic days (1st and 3rd Thursdays of each month). As a member of the clinic's leadership team, you'd also sit in on our bi-monthly meetings that run 90 minutes. Your commitment totals about 15 hours a month, with some flexibility: Work from home and/or the clinic. Overall, it's about half interacting with people and half paper & computer work. Most of our volunteers have been at the clinic for many years; it's a fun and friendly place to help out!
