Volunteer: Dog Fostering (All Expenses Paid & 24/7 support)Misunderstood Mutts Rescue desperately needs foster individuals or families! We can't rescue a dog unless we have a foster home to place them in. Experience the incredible satisfaction of saving an innocent life and bringing lasting love and stability into their world. Enjoy the companionship of fostering a dog for several weeks, while a forever home is found for them. We pay all expenses (food, clothing/gear, bedding, crate, vet visits, etc.), so the only thing you’re responsible for as a foster is to care for the dog until they’re adopted. The amount of dogs being dumped, abandoned, & surrendered is overwhelming. We know this makes you as sad & angry as it makes us, so here’s how you can help us save dogs---become a Foster. Foster homes are the reason MMR is able to exist. We don’t work out of a facility, so we depend on fosters to shelter for our dogs until they're adopted. Sometimes we have to turn away dogs who need help strictly because we can’t find a foster home, so if you’ve been considering fostering there’s never been a better time to start. Volunteer: Wix Website Maintenance Needed for Non-Profit Dog RescueWe're seeking a savvy Wix website designer to be our "go-to" person for the occasional website update or "bug fix". This would be a few times a year or as a critical need arises. Have a look at our MMR website and get in touch. Misunderstood Mutts Rescue (MMR) is a registered 501(c)3, volunteer-operated organization serving the greater Yakima Valley and Puget Sound region. We are dedicated to saving abandoned, free, and throwaway dogs in areas where abuse, neglect, and cruelty are prevalent. Nearly a million healthy animals in the United States are euthanized each year because of overpopulation, and spaying and neutering is the only real long-term solution to the problem. As a foster-based rescue, we can only take in a limited amount of dogs at one time. Our spay and neuter program is an essential step toward our ultimate goal: a world that's free of homeless, neglected, abused, and abandoned animals. Volunteer: Be a Voice in Court for a Child Today! We are looking for volunteers to act as Family Law CASAs (Court Appointed Special Advocates) in King County. A CASA advocate is a Court Appointed Special Advocate who receives training and volunteers their time to investigate and report on the best interests of a child. In tough custody cases, parents are often unable to focus on the needs of their children. Many of these children are so young they cannot speak for themselves. CASA volunteers give these children a voice in court by focusing on the needs of the child and striving to strengthen parenting skills and family relationships. 58% of the families we serve are BIPOC, and we encourage BIPOC to apply to volunteer. Our Mission Statement: Family Law CASA advocates for children in high-conflict cases across King County so they have the best chance for a safe, more secure home life, advancing equity for low-income families and significantly reducing the risk of abuse and neglect. Our Racial Equity Values Statement: At Family Law CASA, we recognize our existence is inextricably tied to racist, sexist, and classist systems that disproportionately impact marginalized groups of King County, especially BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and People of Color) and people in low-income communities. Through our critical work championing children’s voices in family court, we seek to continue to mitigate these real impacts by: Implementing anti-racist and inclusive practices and intentionally participating in ongoing equity and bias training with our board, staff, and volunteer advocates. Including and elevating the voices of all stakeholders that intersect with our program and hold ourselves and our allies accountable for ensuring access to justice and equitable representation in family court. Recognizing that authentically engaging with and centering historically marginalized voices will enable us to disrupt systemic harm and transform our practices, programming, and organization to be more equitable. In addition, we have adopted the Washington Race and Equity Justice Initiative Acknowledgement and Commitments. What does a Court Appointed Special Advocate do? After 21 hours of training (provided by Family Law CASA) and an orientation meeting with an Advocate Supervisor, new advocates spend an average of 60 hours over 6-9 months conducting an investigation and writing report(s). Throughout the investigation, Court Appointed Special Advocates are supported by an Advocate Supervisor (paid professional) who guides them through each step of the process. Advocates are also represented by the Family Law CASA Attorney. While each case is unique, a Court Appointed Special Advocate generally completes the following tasks: * Interviews parents, teachers, doctors, the child and others who might provide helpful information (Due to COVID-19 these interviews can be done virtually!) * Reviews background checks, CPS reports, chemical dependency reports and medical or psychological reports * Asks screening questions during interviews to assess for unreported domestic violence, child abuse, substance abuse and/or mental health concerns * Observes the child's interactions with parents and watches for developmental delays, educational delays, safety concerns or other unaddressed needs * Writes a report that includes recommendations about what is best for the child in the case Requirements: Advocates come from all walks of life, careers, ages, backgrounds and demographics to serve as Court Appointed Special Advocates. To volunteer as a Court Appointed Special Advocate, you must: * Be 21 years of age or older * Have access to a car and the ability to drive to/from appointments * Own and be able to use a computer, including email * Have good communication skills and strong writing ability * Speak and write in English (court is conducted in English without reliable access to interpreters in our cases) * Have reasonable time available to investigate the case & write reports by the court specified due dates * Have no criminal record For more information go to www.familylawcasa.org Agency: Family Law CASA of King County We are looking for volunteers to act as Family Law CASAs (Court Appointed Special Advocates) in King County. Volunteer: Join Page Ahead's Board of DirectorsPage Ahead board members are passionate about equity and children's access to books and reading. We are a governance board, which means we are responsible for setting a vision for Page Ahead and ensuring that our mission is fulfilled. We scan the horizon for new opportunities and act as ambassadors for Page Ahead in the community. Each Page Ahead board member serves on one of the following committees: Board Development, Audit and Finance, Donor Engagement, or Governance. Committees can consist of board as well as community members and there may be duties outside of regular meetings. Board meetings are the second Wednesday of each month from noon to 1:30 in downtown Seattle. The average monthly commitment is 4-6 hours. We believe good governance is achieved when: Page Ahead has sufficient resources to place new books in the hands of children, help parents support their children's emerging reading abilities, and enlist volunteers to read with students. All board members make personal financial contributions to Page Ahead and use our circle of influence to help with fundraising. Page Ahead is a good steward of all contributions. We closely monitor the agency’s financial condition and hire a firm to do an independent audit of Page Ahead’s financial statements annually. There is strong leadership from the board. We actively recruit new members and look for people who have a passion for children and literacy that is matched by their determination and accountability to the agency and its members. We serve a population that is diverse ethnically, culturally and geographically and actively search for board members that represent the community. There is strong linkage between the needs of the community and the program actions of our agency. We attend reading events and book fairs and communicate with partners, children and parents. The board actively works to establish and recognize their needs and acts as the link between the community and Page Ahead.

Volunteer: Board Member for ELAP (Eastside Legal Assistance Program)Board of Directors – Eastside Legal Assistance Program (Bellevue, Washington) (ELAP) Overview of ELAP ELAP is a nonprofit dedicated to working with people facing domestic violence, housing, financial, healthcare, immigration, and other issues who need a legal solution. ELAP believes that everyone deserves access to legal help. An experience with domestic violence, an unexpected medical bill, unfair eviction, or other life challenge can set people back financially, physically, and psychologically. Yet people often don’t know how to exercise their legal rights. Legal aid is a tool that can prevent poverty and injustice. Our staff and volunteer lawyers work for free with people facing domestic violence, housing, financial, healthcare, and other problems that need a legal solution. Role Description ELAP is seeking applicants to serve on our board of directors. We are a financially stable 501(c)(3) in our 35th year of operation. The ELAP Board works to provide strategic governance for the organization. All Board members serve on a Board committee through which they provide more tactical support of ELAP’s mission, including supporting development efforts, implementing organizational policies, and program development and implementation. Role Qualifications We acknowledge that board service is a privilege often limited to individuals who are socially advantaged, based on their gender, ethnic background, sexual orientation, or race. While we value past board experience, we also value a board composition that reflects the clients that ELAP serves and brings specific skill sets or professional expertise to ELAPs work. If you are passionate about our work, interested in investing your time and experience in our organization, and value growth and learning, we encourage all applications, regardless of previous experience. We are seeking applicants who complement and expand the skills, professional backgrounds, and lived experiences of our existing board members. While finance, public health, marketing, development, and HR expertise are our primary needs currently, we encourage all individuals from traditionally underserved populations to apply. Service Specifics Board members commit to the following terms: Volunteer for a 3-year term with the possibility of renewal. Regularly attend board meetings which happen up to 8 times a year (via Zoom with 2 – 3 in- person meetings each calendar year) Serve on and/or chair at least one committee (ex. Governance, Development, Board Recruitment, Attorney Volunteer, Finance). Board Service Description When it comes to serving on a non-profit board, especially one that operates as a “working board” there are several key expectations for board members. These expectations ensure the organization’s effectiveness, mission alignment, and overall success. Compliance and Legal Standards: Board members must adhere to all legal requirements and regulations applicable to non-profit organizations. This includes understanding their fiduciary duties, avoiding conflicts of interest, and ensuring transparency in financial matters. Regular Board Meeting Attendance: Consistent and prepared participation at board meetings is crucial. Board members must review the board materials prior to each Board meeting, arrive promptly and attend the entire Board meeting, actively engage in discussions, and contribute to decision-making. Commitment to the Success of the Breakfast for Justice: Board members actively support ELAP’s largest annual fundraiser, the Breakfast for Justice. Each Board member serves as a table captain (filling at least one table with guests), assists with recruiting sponsors, solicits donations to ELAP through a personal fundraising page and related efforts. In addition, Board members actively support fundraising initiatives by making personal contributions, leveraging their networks, and attending fundraising and donor cultivation events. Committee Involvement: Committees handle specific tasks such as finance, governance, Board recruitment, or program development. To enhance the Board’s overall effectiveness, Board members participate actively in the work of their committees. Board members must attend committee meetings consistently, actively engage in discussions, and contribute to decision- making. Leveraging Personal and Professional Networks: Board members use their connections to benefit the organization. Whether it is introducing potential donors, collaborating with other organizations, or securing resources, their networks play a vital role. Conduct: Board members act with honesty and integrity, and always act for the good of the organization and the people it serves. Board members keep confidential information confidential. Board members work with and respect the opinion of staff members and those who serve on the Board and leave personal prejudices out of all board discussions. Agency: Eastside Legal Assistance Program (ELAP) Board of Directors – Eastside Legal Assistance Program (Bellevue, Washington) (ELAP) Overview of ELAP ELAP is a nonprofit dedicated to working with people facing domestic violence, housing, financial, healthcare, immigration, and other issues who need a legal solution. Spend an average of 6 to 10 hours a month doing board work: attending regular meetings, participating in committee work, and being an ambassador in the community.
