We are looking for someone to help expand our outreach at events. 

The Children's Museum of Skagit County holds several large, public events throughout the year - from Winter Wonderland to Full STEAM Ahead - which require a large number of volunteers to help oversee and/or manage interactive activities. These positions are scheduled in short shifts, with multiple shift options available. Positions generally require time outside, and on your feet.

The Children's Museum of Skagit County is an interactive educational museum for children and adults of all ages. We provide learning opportunites intertwined with activities and exhibits to excel early childhood development. Volunteers may be asked to assist with field trips, birthday parties, camps, classes, exhibit refresh/cleaning/upkeep, or general museum duties. We accept volunteers from the ages of 12 and up and require volunteer applications to be submitted for consideration.

Volunteer Services is a program of Catholic Community Service and is in need of additional drivers in all areas of Kitsap county.  With the help of volunteers we provide transportation, yard service, repairs and household tasks to low-income seniors and disabled adults.  Our main request however is for transportation.   These are low income seniors with no other means of transportation.  We may take them to medical appointments, grocery stores or even church.  Even with Medicaid they are not provided transport to the grocery stores.

Our volunteers use their own vehicles and we provide additional liability policy, plus mileage reimbursement.  We have a great online scheduling program to help you volunteer on YOUR TIME.

Plymouth Housing owns and operates 17 permanent supportive housing units throughout downtown and surrounding neighborhoods, serving 1,400 people a year. We are looking for groups of committed volunteers to provide meal service in our buildings. This is a great opportunity to directly serve our residents and address a large need for the community. 

We ask that volunteer groups provide food and necessary materials (plates, cutlery, napkins, cups, etc.) for 50 servings. Many of our buildings have large community kitchens for food preparations in house, but we also encourage volunteers to consider ready to heat meals from home. We ask that you avoid major allergens such as nuts and seafood. We are able to accommodate any meal any day of the week. Groups should be no greater than 12 and no smaller than 4. 

Average volunteer shifts last 2-3 hours including cleaning and prep time. Each shift would be under coordinator or case management supervision.

We are looking for a volunteer to host monthly open mic or karaoke nights at Plymouth Crossing, our building in Bellevue. This volunteer would bring their own equipment and set up to the building and facilitate an evening for residents to have fun, share their talents, and enjoy one another's company. The community room is already equipped with chairs, tables, couches, and a television. This is a great opportunity to make a joyful difference in your community.  

Role Requirements/Qualifications:  

At WestSide Baby we accept donations of gently used equipment such as strollers, high chairs, pack n' plays, car seats, and more. In order to prepare these items for families we are looking for volunteers to help us inspect, clean, and sometimes repair these donations.

Board of Directors – Eastside Legal Assistance Program (Bellevue, Washington) (ELAP)

Overview of ELAP

ELAP is a nonprofit dedicated to working with people facing domestic violence, housing, financial, healthcare, immigration, and other issues who need a legal solution. ELAP believes that everyone deserves access to legal help. An experience with domestic violence, an unexpected medical bill, unfair eviction, or other life challenge can set people back financially, physically, and psychologically. Yet people often don’t know how to exercise their legal rights. Legal aid is a tool that can prevent poverty and injustice. Our staff and volunteer lawyers work for free with people facing domestic violence, housing, financial, healthcare, and other problems that need a legal solution.

Role Description

ELAP is seeking applicants to serve on our board of directors. We are a financially stable 501(c)(3) in our 35th year of operation. The ELAP Board works to provide strategic governance for the organization. All Board members serve on a Board committee through which they provide more tactical support of ELAP’s mission, including supporting development efforts, implementing organizational policies, and program development and implementation.

Role Qualifications

We acknowledge that board service is a privilege often limited to individuals who are socially advantaged, based on their gender, ethnic background, sexual orientation, or race. Spend an average of 6 to 10 hours a month doing board work: attending regular meetings, participating in committee work, and being an ambassador in the community.

When it comes to serving on a non-profit board, especially one that operates as a “working board” there are several key expectations for board members. These expectations ensure the organization’s effectiveness, mission alignment, and overall success.

Compliance and Legal Standards: Board members must adhere to all legal requirements and regulations applicable to non-profit organizations. This includes understanding their fiduciary duties, avoiding conflicts of interest, and ensuring transparency in financial matters.

Regular Board Meeting Attendance: Consistent and prepared participation at board meetings is crucial. Board members must review the board materials prior to each Board meeting, arrive promptly and attend the entire Board meeting, actively engage in discussions, and contribute to decision-making.

Commitment to the Success of the Breakfast for Justice: Board members actively support ELAP’s largest annual fundraiser, the Breakfast for Justice. Each Board member serves as a table captain (filling at least one table with guests), assists with recruiting sponsors, solicits donations to ELAP through a personal fundraising page and related efforts. In addition, Board members actively support fundraising initiatives by making personal contributions, leveraging their networks, and attending fundraising and donor cultivation events.

Committee Involvement: Committees handle specific tasks such as finance, governance, Board recruitment, or program development. To enhance the Board’s overall effectiveness, Board members participate actively in the work of their committees. Board members must attend committee meetings consistently, actively engage in discussions, and contribute to decision- making.

Leveraging Personal and Professional Networks: Board members use their connections to benefit the organization. Whether it is introducing potential donors, collaborating with other organizations, or securing resources, their networks play a vital role.

Conduct: Board members act with honesty and integrity, and always act for the good of the organization and the people it serves. Board members keep confidential information confidential. Board members work with and respect the opinion of staff members and those who serve on the Board and leave personal prejudices out of all board discussions.

CfY offers two programs, to better fit the needs and schedules of our participants.

Learning Community

The traditional CfY Learning Community offers 1:1 mentorship, small group mentorship, and whole community mentorship. Learning Community participants commit to 2 hours of volunteering a week for the academic year (October - June), with flexibility as needed and communicated with Staff. Meetings typically occur on Tuesday evenings.
Mentors in the Learning Community will:

be paired 1:1 with a student and meet once a month

join a “Family Group” of 3-4 other mentoring pairs and meet once a month

attend whole Community Workshops once a month

attend Mentor training Workshops once a quarter

Duos

Our flexible Duos program focuses on the 1:1 relationship based upon your own schedules. Duos participants commit to meeting twice a month with their match from January - June.
We highly encourage new community members to consider enrolling in the traditional Learning Community program, to experience the power of community and explore different aspects and methods of mentorship.

Eligibility requirements:

Be at least 21 years of age

Reside in the greater Puget Sound region

Be willing to adhere to all Community for Youth program policies and procedures and follow the CfY Code of Conduct

Have never been accused, arrested, charged, or convicted of child abuse or molestation

Not use alcohol or controlled substances in an excessive or inappropriate manner

Not currently be in treatment for substance abuse. If a substance abuse problem has occurred in the past, the applicant must have completed a non-addictive period of at least five years

Be vaccinated against COVID-19 and follow CfY guidelines regarding masks and safety

Being a CFY mentor is rewarding, challenging, and fun! You’ll not only provide critical support for an inquisitive, driven young person, but you’ll also build a strong network with fellow mentors.

The ideal KRM Board member is a passionate Christian leader who desires to serve those experiencing homelessness in Kitsap County. Board members are community ambassadors for KRM who make a personal philanthropic commitment, and partner with staff to raise funds throughout the community. Board members are influential in the communities they serve.

The role of the Board is to partner with and provide guidance to the Executive Director in developing and monitoring local strategies to deliver services, raise funds in accordance with the organizational goals, operate within the approved budget, and along with the Executive, serve as a voice to the community. CCS Volunteer Services provides FREE transportation to seniors & people with disabilities.  Taking them to doctors appointments, shopping, errands or even church.  These clients do not qualify for other services and rely on our community volunteers for transportation. 

With the ease of our computer scheduling , you choose when you are available to Volunteer!  Additional insurance coverage & mileage reimbursement is provided. 

If you enjoy helping others, have a clean driving record and no criminal activity....We look forward to you joining our team.

Must have own vehicle, clean driving and background with up to date vehicle insurance. 

Our Grocery Rescue Program helps us rescue almost 700,000 lbs. of food from going into landfills each year. We pick up food form local grocery stores and either redistribute it to the community, donate it to local livestock farmers, or compost it. We are currently in need of a Friday volunteer in this department.

This position is a Grocery Rescue Assistance on Fridays from 8-11 AM. This position would aid our Grocery Rescue Drivers in picking up donated food and getting it back to the food bank for distribution. It requires the ability to lift 25-50 lbs. from the ground and includes frequent standing and movement.  It also requires knowing or being willing to learn how to safely operate a lift gate and potentially a pallet jack. We are looking for one person to cover. This is a weekly need and consistency for this position is key.

Join one of our informal, English Conversation Circles (ECC) at various Seattle Public Library (SPL) locations or online. These programs provide immigrants and refugees the opportunity to practice conversational English in an informal environment. Conversation Partners help lead fun, small-group discussions on various topics that volunteers help plan in advance and work with English for Speakers of Other Language (ESOL) adults of all skill levels.

ECC's are held in-person at the Beacon Hill, Delridge and Northgate branches, and online at the Central branches of the SPL. Literacy Source is an adult education non-profit located in the Lake City neighborhood of North Seattle. We work with a diverse population of English language learners who together speak over 40 languages. Literacy Source offers classes in English, GED, Adult Foundational Skills, and citizenship as well as legal services for people applying for US citizenship.

Tutors help our students gain self-sufficiency and greater confidence in their English listening/speaking, reading and writing, and digital literacy skills.

Our volunteer ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) tutors offer individualized support to adults who want to improve their basic reading and writing skills, math skills, or those who want to improve their English by developing lesson plans that focus on each individual students' needs and own goals from beginner to intermediate level.

We work with a diverse group of both native and non-native English speakers at our learning center in Lake City.

Bilingualism and/or experience working with adult immigrants and/or refugees is a plus. Training and support will be provided.

Seattle Food Committee works with 27 food banks and pantries within the City of Seattle. In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, we are working together to support our community and continue our work in the struggle against hunger.

Interested in food justice? Volunteers know what goes on behind the scenes at the White Center Food Bank, and are critical to ensuring that our community is able to access the food they need. We are currently seeking volunteers for a variety of roles, and our need is high.

Volunteer Services of Pierce/Kitsap County offers "free" transportation to medical and essential appointments for seniors and people with disabilities.  These are individuals who do not qualify for a care giver or other means of transportation and assistance.  They depend on the kindness of our volunteers to get them to essential medical care.  An hour of your time will make a difference in someone's life!  

Volunteers use their own vehicles and are paid a mileage reimbursement, for all miles driven. Volunteers are also covered with an additional Liability insurance policy.  Our scheduling is done with a web based program allowing you to volunteer on YOUR time.

The funds we are trying to raise will be used to both enhance and support the schools in Kenya that are already using ARES, and also to expand our footprint to additional areas of the country. We have a large backlog of requests from schools that would like an ARES installation, but we're limited in terms of our ability to respond without additional funders. 

We are looking for folks who can help us get a handle on our clutter problems! This role would involve:

- tracking down projects that are occupying common area space and finding their owners

- working with our area leads to identify problem areas and clear out built-up clutter

- keeping us honest about whether we're being realistic or just being packrats

We need help keeping the makerspace clean and tidy. Responsibilities include:

- sweeping and dust mopping floors as needed

- emptying trash cans

- coordinating with the operations manager to reorder supplies

This position is flexible and can be done any time during the week.

What Do Service Dog Puppy-Raisers Do?

No dog is born a service dog, they need to be trained and nurtured. With the help of you, our dedicated and loyal puppy-raisers and respite fosters, puppies start out the right way with socialization and lots of love.  Starting at about eight to twelve weeks of age, you commit to keep and care for him for the next six to eight months.  The task of puppy raisers is to provide a safe, loving environment for the dog, and to expose them to lots of opportunities for socialization. These experiences introduce our pups to the world in a positive, fun, and relaxed way, allowing them to explore the world in safety. We also offer ongoing training and support, including food and veterinary care, so your biggest job is to make sure they are loved and happy!  Without dedicated puppy raisers, service dog organizations would not be able to provide service animals to people in need.

The Whatcom Literacy Council is member of ProLiteracy America, and a United Way partner agency.  We provide free one-to-one tutoring and small classes. Our tutors can work with learners throughout Whatcom County at a public meeting place and at times that fit our learners' busy schedules. 

Kitsap Harvest’s Grow-A-Row project is intended to connect home gardeners’ excess garden harvest to Kitsap County’s vulnerable populations without access to nutritious food, prevent food waste from home producers and farmers markets, and build community capacity for food production and sharing. Kitsap County gardeners, connected by a network of donation stations, distribution volunteers, and our aggregation station, can deliver fresh seasonal locally grown produce to feed communities most at risk for food insecurity and malnutrition and build regional sustainability and resilience through grassroots community care.

The growth of the program will require coordination of many volunteers, destinations for donated produce, community gardens, farmers market donation stations, as well as building the framework and capacity to grow in the future. Establishing this network will require a number of skills and responsibilities to be shared across a committee of dedicated volunteers.

The Kitsap Harvest Grow-A-Row program will be facilitated by a working committee consisting of 6 volunteer members. The meeting frequency of the committee will likely vary over the course of the calendar year. Certain categories of responsibilities will have more to do in some seasons than others. The committee will need to be adaptable and collaborative.

These are initial conceptions of the needs of the committee and the different responsibilities that can be grouped by skill set into roles for individual members. In reality, committee members can flexibly collaborate and share skill sets, time and energy amongst themselves as a group according to the emergent needs and goals of the program.

Mentoring is an amazing experience for both the mentor and mentee. You can make a positive impact on this 8-year-old history buff, who lives in West Bremerton. He is looking for a mentor who will participate in fun activities. His favorite subjects in school are math and PE, and enjoys the school library. Are you looking to have some fun while making a difference in your community?

Plymouth Housing Group is a local non-profit organization that provides permanent supportive housing at 17 residential buildings that serve about 1,400 residents who were formerly homelessness. We are looking for a few volunteers who are knowledgeable, passionate, and interested in outdoor recreation, specifically fishing. Our building staff want to take a group of residents on a day trip to leisurely fish and enjoy time outdoors together. We are looking for a small group of volunteers to lead the trip by choosing the location, providing some gear (a few residents have limited gear), helping residents and staff learn how to fish, and assisting with transportation. We can provide some transportation as well. This would be very relaxed as some of our residents have mobility and health limitations. Ideally the fishing location would be 20-30 minutes from downtown Seattle and not involve any hiking. 

Volunteers must understand and align with Plymouth's mission and values of harm reduction and housing first. Many logistics will be figured out closer to the summertime. Our nation’s heroes travel around the globe to protect our freedoms—it’s only right that we return their dedication. Volunteering to drive a Veteran ensures that even those living remotely from VA hospitals can make their appointments and not go without the treatment they need. 

Join the team! Whatcom County volunteer drivers will operate a DAV van (no personal vehicles). Staged in Bellingham, departing early in the morning, the route of travel includes planned stops along the way in Bellingham, Mount Vernon, Stanwood, Arlington, and Marysville. After the Veterans are delivered to the Seattle VA Medical Center, the driver is free to go about their business in town or to remain at the facility until the Veteran calls the driver's government-supplied cell phone to advise they are ready to return home. Volunteer drivers are provided a meal ticket for use at the Veterans Canteen Service.

Volunteer drivers operate VA vehicles furnished by the DAV. Volunteers must be 21 or over, pass a physical, be insurable and have a valid driver's license. The approval process includes a federal background check which might take as long as 90 days, so apply now even for a future interest. Training will be provided.

Role Summary: We are looking for several volunteers who know how to cut/trim hair of varying textures and lengths. The haircuts/trims would be very simple and basic. This volunteer would be placed in one of our 17 buildings across the Seattle area to host hour-long drop-in hair cutting sessions bi-weekly or once a month. This role is highly impactful for our residents who often struggle to maintain hygiene, cannot afford to go to the barber/stylist, or feel uncomfortable in public barbershops/salons. Having a volunteer meet them where they are at eliminates these barriers and encourages self-care behaviors.

Tree Wranglers are like the stage crew at a play or concert, for our tree-planting work parties. They do all the planning, site exploration, transport, and manual labor that's needed to make sure each seedling will be planted in the right place, and all tools and materials are ready to go and arranged onsite. They also provide instruction and guidance to tree-planting volunteers during work parties. Their crucial prep work and expertise ensures smooth and productive tree-planting projects!

Work times are arranged in collaboration with our Planting Coordinator and other Tree Wranglers. As part of a small and flexible team, your individual commitment can vary according to your own preferences and schedule limitations. You'll typically be needed on weekdays leading up to a weekend work party, and sometimes right before and during a work party. Our planting season is November-late March.

We provide all necessary tools, gloves, and training, and if needed you may be able to arrange carpooling with other Wranglers (many sites are outside city limits/not accessible by public transportation or bike). Comfort with manual labor, heavy lifting, and all-weather outdoor work is a must; passion for trees and planting strategies preferred. This is a great opportunity to learn a lot and be part of a passionate and dedicated team, while doing satisfying work essential to the planting part of our mission! AVID—Advancement Via Individual Determination—fosters a safe and open culture, high expectations for teachers and students, and collaboration in all classrooms.  Tutoring in AVID is different from any volunteer position you have held before.  Many AVID students are first in their family to attend college and want to achieve big dreams!  AVID students need role models and mentors to support their dream of college.  AVID tutors assist students to achieve their full potential by facilitating collaborative tutorial groups that use critical thinking skills, practicing public speaking, utilizing multiple resources (print and electronic), asking high level questions, taking Cornell notes, analyzing the process of each question, and writing reflections about their learning.  Small group tutorial sessions are held twice a week (Tuesday & Thursday), volunteers choose which time during the days they would like.  No experience necessary, just the love of learning and your kindness.

Serve Washington, the state commission for national and community service, is looking for talented people from all over the Washington to be commissioners!  

As a commissioner, you'll promote and encourage all forms of service and volunteerism in your local community.  You'll play a key role in identifying gaps in service opportunities in our state and work to remove barriers to service and volunteerism for people and communities who are underserved. You'll help influence where service resources are allocated and be a champion for recognizing accomplishments of volunteers everywhere in Washington!

SCORE helps small businesses in Whatcom & Skagit counties prosper by providing volunteers who share their business skills through one-on-one mentoring, and by providing free workshops on a wide variety of topics in the areas of starting-up, writing a business plan, managing finances, marketing your services, etc.

Evergreen Social Impact (ESI) is seeking community-oriented, new and established leaders to join our Board of Directors. If you are interested in serving with an organization that works to support and sustain the Washington State nonprofit community, please contact us. This opportunity is for a renewable, three-year term; the Board meets six times per year via Zoom.

Help with construction and building repair projects around the One Heart Wild animal care sanctuary. Time needed on-site will vary from week to week, and is dependent on what needs tending to. 

Meeting with other volunteers and staff to brainstorm, plan, and implement community engagement and events for connecting the public to One Heart Wild. Familiarizing oneself with the journeys of our animals, as most have come from traumatic and abusive environments, and sharing their inspiring stories with the public. 

Can expect a 2 hour meeting once a month, and then event and activity hours as applicable. 

Engage in regular meetings with other volunteers and staff as we brainstorm, plan, and implement fundraising efforts for the rescued animals living at One Heart Wild.  

Meals on Wheels Kitsap (MOWK) is seeking Home Delivered Meals Drivers to delivered nutritionally balanced meals to homebound seniors in the Central Kitsap area. Volunteer drivers: provide critical outreach and safety checks to decrease social isolation; support seniors to live well independently; and ensure our community’s seniors do not go without a nutritious meal.

We have two Thursday route openings - one which serves the urban area in Silverdale east of HWY 3 and the other mostly rural, west of HWY 3.  Route drivers are trained on both to support coverage and rotate the routes every other week.  Please contact Jennifer at 360.377.8511 to have an application mailed/emailed to you or visit us at www.mealsonwheelskitsap.org. Prospective volunteers may download a Volunteer Application under the Support tab. Regular drivers commit to a once a week delivery.  Approximate route delivery time roundtrip from the kitchen is around 2.5 hours (from 10:30 AM-1 PM) if done solo.  Teams are welcome to apply.

We at the Central Kitsap Food Bank serve the community by alleviating food insecurity.  At the same time, we want to present our Food Bank at its best.  We are looking for volunteers that can come in for an hour and do full clean to prepare for the next day.  This position is for Monday’s from 1-2.  We are closed on all Federal Holidays.  Please contact J’aime our volunteer coordinator at info@ckfoodbank.org if you are interested. 

Job description

Student Volunteers support teachers in leading Mandarin school classrooms for students aged 3.5 and above. We currently have six openings, teaching kindergarten/elementary/middle school aged children. Classes are held on Saturday mornings 9:30-12.

Responsibilities:

Ensure the safety and well-being of children at all times.
Encourage positive social interactions that are joyful and respectful.
Participate in community-building events and works well in a team environment.

Qualifications:

Middle and high school students seeking opportunities to earn service/volunteer hours.
Bilingual English/Mandarin (a plus).
Expected hours: 3 per week.
Work Location: In person.

The Regional Board provides critical support and leadership in guiding Reading Partners operations on a
local level. Board members support the executive director and staff and assist in key areas including
raising funds, identifying potential partnerships, facilitating conversations and providing input to the
regional executive director on strategic issues to ensure Reading Partners’ sustainability and growth.
